Welcome and a small note

edit

Hello J.W.Hon and welcome to Wikipedia! I left a note at Talk:Urethritis but noticed one of your edits there and figured I'd leave a small additional note here. Here you added the text All sexual partners of those with infectious urethritis should be treated. In general, we try to write articles here as an encyclopedia describing each topic. We try to avoid writing in a how-to tone (this tendency is documented at WP:What Wikipedia is not and for medical articles in particular at Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Medicine-related_articles#Wikipedia_is_not_a_medical_primary_resource). So instead of "X should be treated with Y"<ref>Some manual from the American College of Bigwigs</ref>, we would write "The American College of Bigwigs recommends treating X with Y"<ref>Same reference</ref>. So we describe the situation, but we don't give recommendations in Wikipedia's voice. I think I don't have access to the source from Harvard Health Online so I don't have a particular suggestion in this case, but perhaps you can sort out an alternative way to note it.

That said, keep up the good work! Wikipedia runs on a labyrinth of community guidelines and norms, hammered out over the years by editors' experiences and discussion. It's pretty well impossible to read every guideline before you start, so don't worry too much about it. Expect to make some minor mistakes along the way and learn as you go. I hope all is well during these crazy times! Happy editing. Ajpolino (talk) 22:03, 29 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
