Web Archives as References
editHello there. I would like to ask if web archives can be used as "references" for an article. BTW, the web archive is an archive of a website (or a subpage of it) that has been already deleted. 180.191.63.230 (talk) 07:46, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
- And for what reason?...in my opinion, web archives should not be used if and only if, the offical site/subpage has been removed by the webmaster of the said site. Web archives can be used, however, only if the official site is currently down, under maintainance, etc. IronBreww (talk) 04:49, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
- Hi IronBreww, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a newspaper that only reports current events. Archived web pages like those in archive.org's database, are exact copies of web pages that either still exists or, for one reason or the other, have vanished. The contents of reliable websites are excellent sources, regardless if they are archived or not, to support both current and historical facts about the subject. In the case of the Interpol Red Notice on Eli Soriano, there was never a retraction, apology or further clarification issued by the Interpol saying something to the effect that Soriano is no longer wanted by the Philippine government for sex crimes or that they made a mistake or that he is no longer on their Red Notice. The fact that Eli Soriano's name has been in their website for a very long time as a wanted sex offender, which can be easily proven using Internet archives, can only be challenged by a formal declaration to the contrary. The fact that web pages used as references have retrieved + date shows that they do not need to be current unless intentionally overridden by more credible information. – Shannon Rose Talk 23:46, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for sharing your concerns. IronBreww (talk) 03:17, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
- And thank you for being an open-minded editor. – Shannon Rose Talk 18:06, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
- FYI sticking my nose in here, Wordpress is NOT a web archive and NOT suitable under any circumstances as a "reliable source" for contentious information about a living person. Active Banana (talk) 16:37, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

editHello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, IronBreww, may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it appears to be being used to impersonate Ironbrew (talk · contribs) based on very similar name and contribution histories. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may file for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account and use that for editing. Thank you. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 16:53, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below).
A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.
Please choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines. However, do not create a new account if you wish to credit your existing contributions to a new name through a username change. To request a username change:
- Add
{{unblock-un|your new username here}}
on your user talk page. You should be able to edit this talk page even though you are blocked. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page. - At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
- Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a list of names that have already been taken. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
- Add
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. TNXMan 18:03, 22 June 2010 (UTC)- Username change completed. –xenotalk 13:32, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
Question
editMay I ask why you signed this post [1] as if you were User:IronBreww? Active Banana ( bananaphone 13:58, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
- I see that your account name has been changed. You need to correct your signature as well under MyPreferences. Active Banana ( bananaphone 14:00, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
Editing of articles
editIt appears in this edit [2] as if you are telling the IP editor that if you do not belong to INC that you cannot edit that article. That is completely inappropriate and inaccurate advice. Active Banana ( bananaphone 14:05, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
