Hello, IpswitchFT, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you have edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been reverted for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of deletion, you might like to draft your article before submission, then get me or any other editor to proofread it. To start creating a draft article, just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit that page as you would any other. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

The one firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that if more than one person is using this account to edit, then unfortunately it will be blocked from editing.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! DanielRigal (talk) 20:22, 2 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because Appears to contain the name of the company that this user is promoting.. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may file for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account and use that for editing. Thank you. DanielRigal (talk) 22:57, 2 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi there. I'm new to Wikipedia and I guess I'm not understanding how things work. Thanks for reaching out. I did create a new account to use for editing, but now it has been flagged as a "sock puppet" and my contributions have been deleted with the claim that they are "promotional." I was simply adding basic information about the WS_FTP software that follows the exact same criteria of the other contributions and is void of any opinion or tone. I'm a bit confused. Some guidance would be appreciated. IpswitchFT (talk) 04:19, 3 December 2009 (UTC)IpswitchFTReply

If you read WP:COI you will see that it makes it clear that it is best to stay away from articles that are about things you are personally associated with. It is not an absolute rule banning editing such articles but you do need to be very careful when editing them. Making a second account and continuing to write about Ipswitch products looked bad because it gave the impression that you were trying to hide the conflict of interests rather than avoid it.
If you want to edit other articles on other subjects then I think the two accounts can be tided up easily enough. Ask an administrator to block this one (as the user name is against policy) and carry on with the other one. Once this one is blocked or defunct then I see no problem with removing the sockpuppet tags. Alternatively they may prefer to rename this account and block the other one. Either way you will end up with one account that is OK to use and there is no need for there to be any further problem so long as you avoid COI in future. --DanielRigal (talk) 22:25, 3 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because your username, IpswitchFT, does not meet our username policy.

Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.

You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:

  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} on your user talk page. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you feel that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. -- Cirt (talk) 04:43, 28 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
