Fr. Fernando Valdivia Mendoza
Fr. Fernando Valdivia was born in Campanario, Spain, December 28, 1658. He entered to the convent of Cordova as Augustinian and he occupied different duties in his Province. In 1717 was presented to the San Juan diocese.
Valdivia arrived to Puerto Rico on June 6, 1719. He showed great interest to know his diocese and he started immediately the visit to the island. He also visited the island of Trinidad, which was part of his diocese. He put a lot of effort to finish the cathedral and repair the convent of Carmelites. He was a big defender of the Puertorican corsair Miguel Enriquez, mulatto. This support brought him a lot of problems with the governor Alberto Bertolano and Danio Branados. He died on November 25, 1725.
