In 1974, and initially on his own, Weingartner began to develop a low-cost but high-quality version of the XLR connector. Seven months later he was joined by industrial designer Werner Bachmann. Neutrik AG was founded in 1975 by Bernhard Weingartner and the investors Gebhard Sprenger and Josef Gstöhl. The company Neutrik was thus officially launched and in the ensuing years became the world market leader in XLR audio connectors.
