Fair use rationale for Image:Welsh Guardsman Leonard Sherman.JPEG edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Welsh Guardsman Leonard Sherman.JPEG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. I really do not understand the process. This is a family photo of Leonard Sherman, one of the 4 founders of the 43 group. This photo is in my possession, and has never been published before.Historygypsy (talk) 04:09, 5 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Welsh Guardsman Leonard Sherman.JPEG edit

A tag has been placed on File:Welsh Guardsman Leonard Sherman.JPEG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Disambiguation link notification for March 9 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Lebanese Civil War, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Who?. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

McGuinness edit

Hello Historygypsy,

I think you misunderstood the intent of my question. I was asking why the information about McGuiness needed to be in the Soputa article. What happened to McGuiness certainly seems to be the kind of thing that deserves mention somewhere but I don't see why it should be in that article. The article is about the town of Soputa, not about McGuiness. It is appropriate to mention in the article the part the town played in the War, but what happened to an individual during the War in that town but was not a citizen of that town just does not belong. On Wikipedia we have a term called coatracking which is where one article is used to talk about another tangential subject. Does the village celebrate McGuiness to this day? Are there memorials to him there? Without some really strong connection to the town this information doesn't really belong there. SQGibbon (talk) 18:09, 4 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Soputa edit

Hi Historygypsy. Thanks for the extra information/context on what happened to McGuinness. It's certainly interesting and is one of those stories that deserves to be remembered and told. I would highly encourage you to create a biography article about him for Wikipedia. Looking at the site you originally linked to there are some mentions of him. All we need are two independent reliable sources who discuss him in some detail. Simple biographical material and then of course why he was awarded the Military Cross is all you need to create that article. I don't have access to any material that isn't freely available online but if you do have access to such (like libraries) then it should be possible to find mentions of him in those books and probably even in newspaper articles. I'll help where I can. If you can find the sources (they don't have to be online) I will help you format it like is required for a Wikipedia article and then story will be there for anyone to read. Hello SQGibbon, so nice of you to reply. Allan McG. died much too young in 1972. Those whom he helped and saved are also long since gone. He reached the rank of Temporary Lt. Colonel. He was the chief physician of Syndey Hospital, Attending Physician of the "Repatriation (War Veterans') General Hospital of Sydney" (now a general teaching hospital) and the Chief Censor (Examiner) of the Royal College of Physicans of Australia and New Zealand. Allan lived and breathed for medicine, his only pass time was gardening. I worked with and for a great many outstanding doctors in Australia, The UK, New Zealand and Canada, but I never met anyone who matched his dedication nor his encyclopedic knowlege of medicine. I guess that he will never be remembered on Wikipedia, but thanks for your very kind offer of help."Sic transit gloria" Historygypsy (talk) 19:20, 28 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
