Your contributed article, Hertford Cricket Club

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Hertford Cricket Club. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Hertfordshire County Cricket Club. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will to continue helping improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Hertfordshire County Cricket Club - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 13:27, 5 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Nomination of Hertford Cricket Club for deletion

edit

A discussion has begun about whether the article Hertford Cricket Club, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hertford Cricket Club until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 13:30, 5 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because your username, HertfordCricketClub, does not meet our username policy.

Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account

You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:

  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} on your user talk page. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you feel that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first.

I'm disabling this per your lack of response, however, please feel free to put it back up when you have a moment to address the concerns below. Thanks, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 16:08, 6 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 15:04, 5 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Is it really not possible to think of a username which is wholly unrelated to your main interest? Failure to do so would tend to imply a single-purpose account which, while not forbidden, is looked at with more than average care. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 22:01, 5 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Do you think it is fair to continue this username block given that the editor has provided a name that meets policy, especially when the article he has created is at AfD and the block prevents him from either contributing to the debate or improving the article? Some good faith about the editors future intentions should be granted here. -- Mattinbgn (talk) 01:37, 6 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Indeed, how many users have a username not wholly unrelated to their main interest? Also, what has an understanding that Wikipedia is not a business directory got to do with this unblock request? Why should this newbie have to demonstrate "that to be considered for an encylopedia article, the subject must be considered to be notable" when the subject of their first article meets our published notability guidleines? --Pontificalibus (talk) 23:06, 6 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
