Short link pipe trick

Many article titles are disambiguated with parenthetic qualifiers, like this: Self (psychology). But when you want to include such a link in the body of an article, this would look rather awkward. So all you have to do is use the "pipe trick", like this: Self (psychology). Notice the "|" character stuck in there at the end of the link? That makes the link look like this: Self, without having to type the name of the link after the pipe!

This trick also works with namespaces, so that Wikipedia:Tip of the day (again notice the pipe character) displays like this: Tip of the day.

Zodiac articles

edit

I noticed that almost all of your edits have been in this area, and as a new editor you may not be aware of article talk pages. There is currently a request for comment on whether articles about zodiac signs should include lists of people. You may wish to join the discussion. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited October 26, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page NCT (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Chinese zodiac

edit

Hi! I've seen that you've been adding a lot of peoples to the articles related to Chinese zodiac. It's nice to see that you've got a huge passion towards those articles but I would recommend you to watch the birth dates too (not only years) from Chinese calendar before adding new peoples to those lists to make sure that the information is correct. As an example you added Pep Guardiola who's born in 18 January 1971 on the list in Pig's article, despite he's not born during Year of the Pig (Year of the Pig began at 27 January in 1971). HermioneJapardi, in case you're not aware of this, you should know that erasing Santtu37's post from your talk page doesn't make it 'go away', but rather serves as an acknowledgement that you have read it. Please stop adding people who do not belong to these articles. Continuing to do so will be considered disruptive editing. Thank you. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 05:07, 30 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
@HermioneJapardi: You might not have noticed, but there's a current request for comments that's about to come to an end, and will almost certainly result in the removal of these lists from all Chinese zodiac articles. Feel free to comment there, but be aware that it is unlikely to alter the outcome at this point. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 17:40, 12 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message

edit
Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add NoACEMM to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 03:03, 24 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
