One self-published novel quoted in several articles

Dear User, I have noticed that you have erased certain quotes. I would like to inform you that as long as there are no commercial links to (Amazon/ pay sites), quotes are allowed in wikipedia.

Quotes from reliable sources are allowed, but it is inappropriate to take your self-published novel and quote it in several different articles around Wikipedia, as can be seen here: [1]. In addition to praise in these articles, e.g. "a very nice quote..." [2], in one of edit summaries the editor gives address of the self-publishing website where the novel is sold. This is advertising.

Hi Hele 7 1) you are claiming that this is MY novel. How can you prove that? 2) The edit summaries MUST contain the source of the novel. This is not advertising simply because it is not visible on the main wiki page. The link is necessary to prove that the quote doesn't violate copyright. 3) I will search for "Very nice quote" and change it to "quote". I agree that wiki should stay neutral.

Arthur_B, you are ignoring the main point that this self-published novel is not a reliable source for Wikipedia and it should not be quoted where it was quoted. Wikipedia: Reliable sources says that "We may not use primary sources material that has not been made available by a reliable publisher" and "Personal websites, blogs, and other self-published or vanity publications should not be used as secondary sources. That is, they should not be used as sources of information about a person or topic other than the owner of the website, or author of the book."

In short, these quotes should not exist in these articles. So there is also no need to link the seller of the novel or examine your connections with the author. An admin with access to IP addresses can see if you have used the IP-s that were used to promote the novel.

This part means factual information. Quotes are not information. I will give you an example to understand what that means:

A person published a book claiming that 911 was a martian attack. Now you don't take this as a fact and go write it in the 911 article.

Quotes are not a source of information. They can be added as long as they are not off-topic.

Wikipedia is not a place to collect arbitrary quotes - if a quote is added, it should be a source of notable and verifiable information about the topic of the article. If your quote is not a source of information at all, please do not add it to Wikipedia.

If a self-published novel says "911 was a martian attack", you should not insert the quote into article about 911. If the novel will get published by respectable publishers and will become notable, then you may use this quote in Wikipedia article about the novel or its author. As you can see, there are also other people who consider your quotes inappropriate. Hele 7 20:35, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
