Balanced-identity theory and design- It looks like the theory that Greenwald et al. used to justify the creation of the IAT, and then their own version of the theory. I was thinking that too, but what confuses me is the paragraph that starts off saying Greenwald and colleagues introduced balanced-identity design as a way to test Heider's theory. 2002 is after Greenwald's IAT development, so I guess maybe it's saying he was continuing to test aspects of his theory, but not that the IAT was based on/inspired by Heider's theory.
