Case studies at International child abduction in Brazil

edit

Greetings, I've removed the case studies at International child abduction in Brazil after raising the issue on the page's Discussion and getting no clear rebuttal to the concerns that the caste-studies are given disproportionate weight, are written in a subjective manner, and contribute to an overall WP:SOAPBOX trend in the article. ICA in Brazil is certainly a legitimate topic, but it must be addressed in a neutral manner. The material I left, taken largely from official government statements (though slanted towards the US government side) are very constructive contributions, but the case-studies are syntheses of news stories (many of which are themselves non-notable), and completely overwhelm the article with repetitive stories which do not necessarily contribute to a reader's overall understanding of the topic, and certainly not in a concise, encyclopedic manner.

I'd appreciate it if you could state your argument for retaining all or some of the case studies on the Discussion page so we can sort out this issue, rather than revert back and forth. MatthewVanitas (talk) 11:56, 29 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Chabad-messianism2.jpg

edit

A tag has been placed on File:Chabad-messianism2.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Username blocked

edit

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 23:12, 16 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

All that I was doing was trying to upload 3 images which I believe are appropriate for 2 articles that I did NOT write and I did NOT edit. I have no idea why was I blocked. If you do not want these images please let me know. I was NOT editing any articles. I would like to see an explanation as to why the blocker believed that these images had anything to do with publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you explain to me what was I doing wrong then I will obviously not do it again. I just cannot understand what triggered this block. Thanks.

Decline reason:

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

You have not been blocked due to your behavior, but only because of your username. — Train2104 (talk • contribs • count) 01:15, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Allowing username change to Emet-Tzedek (talk · contribs). Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking.

Unblocking administrator: Please check for active autoblocks on this user after accepting the unblock request.

Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. Daniel Case (talk) 16:43, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I understand the 3 points above. This is the reason I proposed the new username. Is the new username acceptable? Thanks. --Hatufim-org (talk) 17:46, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'm concerned that your name may be related to a company - can you just confirm that you have nothing to do with http://www.thelocalweb.net/index/DAG/tlw_834234.htm ?  Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:49, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

I have nothing to do with that webpage, which appears to be part of an outdated directory, or with the company mentioned there. They don't even have a website, so it seems that company doesn't exist anymore. Thanks. --Hatufim-org (talk) 16:06, 18 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:Rubashkin-not-kosher.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Rubashkin-not-kosher.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk 03:52, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for File:Chabad-messianism1.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Chabad-messianism1.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk 01:40, 19 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
