Any time that I want quick information about any topic, I rely on the Wikipedia. It is my favorite source for basic information. If I want to know what a name refers to, the service ceiling of a particular aircraft, the year something occurred, or how many episodes of a television show there will be in the new season, I can rely on the Wikipedia, and find my information very quickly, at my desk. I regularly refer my students to the Wikipedia. It is a wonderful resource for general and specific information. And I always know either where the information came from, or that the information is of unknown origin and to be aware of that fact. In this regard it is far more valid than information from any other popular media source.
