Proposed deletion of Fundamental astronomy book

edit

Hello, Gshahali. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Fundamental astronomy book, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks, Ratzd'mishukribo (talk) 04:05, 7 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello again, and thanks for your polite response!
Let me explain why I proposed to delete Fundamental astronomy book:
I checked Wikipedia's policy on articles about books (WP:NBOOKS - point #4, see footnote), and it seems that textbooks, even if used in major universities, are not notable enough (see WP:notability) to be included in Wikipedia. As for A Question and Answer Guide to Astronomy, perhaps that should be deleted too—it doesn't seem to fit policy either.
However, since you disagree with the proposed deletion (you have every right too) I will instead start a discussion at WP:Articles for deletion about both Fundamental astronomy book and A Question and Answer Guide to Astronomy. There you can give your opinion and explain why you think the article should be kept. Ratzd'mishukribo (talk) 19:33, 7 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry, Gshahali, but I can't remove the discussion, it's against policy. No one can remove the discussion until an administrator closes the discussion, usually in seven days.
But please realize the discussion does not mean that either of the two articles will be deleted; it only means that anyone who wants to can, for 7 days, discuss whether the articles belong on Wikipedia or not and give there opinion as delete or keep. You, as the creator of the article, and I, as the nominator for deletion, can't vote (see WP:COI), but you can just go to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fundamental astronomy book and write any reason you have as to why you think the article should be kept, and your reasons will be taken in consideration by the other editors.

Congratulations on the article being kept!

Please make sure to add to the article the reasons why this book is notable (which were mentioned in the deletion discussion). If a book is important enough to have an article in Wikipedia, it should be obvious when reading the article.

Thank you very much!

Hello Gshahali!
The whole discussion about the article, with all the reasons to keep it, is still here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fundamental astronomy book. Enjoy!

Gshahali: You're not supposed to link to Wikipedia pages (those that begin with "Wikipedia:") in an article. Use the information and sources mentioned in the discussion to improve the article.

Hello, I'm Jschnur. I wanted to let you know that I undid one of your recent contributions, such as the one you made to Fundamental Astronomy (book), because it didn’t appear constructive to me. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks, Jschnur (talk) 03:05, 15 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
