Fair use rationale for File:GreenLama.jpg

In reviewing some recently uploaded images I see you uploaded File:GreenLama.jpg and claim it is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale. At least two other images have incomplete or missing rationales. I'm sure you can fix this, but if not you can ask questions at WP:MCQ. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 04:04, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

German diss. on China

I would gladly help you, if I can. I am a bit puzzled though: You have this German dissertation on Chinese history, but you do not want to publish it, you only want to know what it says? But why do you need all of it translated? Well, it is your business, I guess and if you are not too much in a hurry, I might help you. I can read some Kanji, but have neither the ability nor the resources to read or translate much Chinese (concepts and technical terms might be OK). --Radh (talk) 14:41, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

Sorry. If I can just jump in here. It's in German, and Ghostexorcist wants it translating from German to English, to the best of my knowledge. There is no mention of knowledge of Chinese language being necessary. --KägeTorä - (影虎) (TALK) 15:11, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
Oh yes, but there will probably be words, sentences, whole passages from Chinese sources (and perhaps not translated)? --Radh (talk) 15:28, 14 April 2010 (UTC).
影虎 is correct (love the name by the way). I only need the German translated into English. All Hanzi is represented in its anglicized form. I am majoring in Chinese in college, so I have no problem with this portion.
I didn't think I would get a reply on here so I put out a notice at my college. One Chinese student with knowledge of German has answered the call. If this doesn't work out, I will definitely contact you Radh. Thanks for the interest. --Ghostexorcist (talk) 16:20, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
If something goes wrong, post on my German talk (Benutzer:Radh) or here (feel free to ask questions about German if you need to).--Radh (talk) 16:49, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
I majored in Chinese, so if you need any help and if I have the time, I'll be available for you, too. Post on my talk page any questions you may have. (And cheers for the comment on my username - it's a long story of how I got that.... - too long!). --KägeTorä - (影虎) (TALK) 12:10, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Asian MA origins

Sorry for the confusion but what I said wasn't aimed at you or anyone in particular. I meant to post my comment in a new section but I put it under yours because I agreed with you that the article was horrible. I was trying to propose that each of the origin theories is instead treated as a theory of influence. If I believed that Bodhidharma founded Shaolin kungfu, I could argue that the prior existence of martial arts in China doesn't disprove the influence of Bodhidharma. The same could be said of the Greek origin theory in India. To me, it doesn't make sense to say that all martial arts came from one place. Similarities may be convergent (as you've already pointed out) or could be taken as evidence of influence but not necessarily origin. I also suggest adding sections for a general history of martial arts in each sub-region of Asia (East, South, Southeast) or individual countries that were especially pivotal to their development (China, India, etc). Your thoughts? Morinae (talk) 09:46, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

That sounds fine to me. I don't have time to focus on the article right now as it is coming up on finals week. --Ghostexorcist (talk) 20:43, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

Sun Wukong

Hello, I've no objection to your edits on the matter. I'm not an expert on the field, I was just reverting User:Soupysoap's edits as the account is being used by a notorious sockmaster. Though this source on Encyclopedia Britannica seems to indicate that he is based on Hanuman [1]. It is referenced later in the article but not being particularly knowledgeable about the subject, I really can't say for sure. Just wanted to let you know and happy editing. Thanks, Vedant (talk) 12:56, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

I wasn't critiquing your revert at all. I just knew that I had removed that particular sentence a while ago because of lack of sourcing. Whoever added it back last time (before the sockpuppet removed it) sourced it with a webpage about Hanuman, which mentioned nothing about Sun Wukong.
While there is always a chance that Hanuman influenced the development of Sun Wukong in some way, the research of Meir Shahar has shown the most recent influence (like within the last 1000 years or so) was a religious Chinese legend about the "Lingyin si Temple Monkey." --Ghostexorcist (talk) 15:01, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
I understand, I took a look at the source myself and couldn't find the claim in question. I defer to your judgement in the matter. Thanks, Vedant (talk) 22:36, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

Reviewer rights

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Karanacs (talk) 15:33, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Cbrazilkalkil.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Cbrazilkalkil.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 22:29, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Jewish identity

Regarding your current Ref Desk query on this topic: The issue you raise, of identity vs. assimilation when confronted with adversity, is context-dependent on the level of religiosity of the mainstream society and its cultural options (for example: being obliged to work on the Jewish Sabbath, eating nonkosher food, etc.). Even more relevant: what do you mean by "religious identity/faith" -- to include only practicing Orthodox Jews or adherents of all streams (including the non-halachic Reform Judaism that forgoes sabbath observance, head covering, kosher food, etc.), and/or secular affiliation with the Jewish people rather than assimilation? And in which societies (i.e. mainstream Christian, Muslim, secular), at what times in history? We can perhaps make a more helpful recommendation if you can focus in these terms, because a comprehensive explanation covering such a wide scope is liable to be superficial or too narrow in scope. -- Deborahjay (talk) 18:25, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Buddhist neigong book cover.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Buddhist neigong book cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 17:51, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

August 2010

  When adding links to material on an external site, as you did to Jack Dempsey, please ensure that the external site is not violating the creator's copyright. Linking to websites that display copyrighted works is acceptable as long as the website's operator has created or licensed the work. Knowingly directing others to a site that violates copyright may be considered contributory infringement. This is particularly relevant when linking to sites such as YouTube, where due care should be taken to avoid linking to material that violates its creator's copyright. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you believe the linked site is not violating copyright with respect to the material, then you should do one of the following:

  • If the linked site is the copyright holder, leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page;
  • If a note on the linked site credibly claims permission to host the material, or a note on the copyright holder's site grants such permission, leave a note on the article Talk page with a link to where we can find that note;
  • If you are the copyright holder or the external site administrator, adjust the linked site to indicate permission as above and leave a note on the article Talk page;

If the material is available on a different site that satisfies one of the above conditions, link to that site instead. —Farix (t | c) 02:37, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

"Chinese coiffure or turban", August 13th

I have answered your question in that page Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Archives/Language/2010_August_8#Chinese_coiffure_or_turban, but I think I should inform you in case the answer is ignored. Wish the answer is useful.--Certiffon (talk) 17:30, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

I'm really sorry that I didn't notice your reply. I don't come here often. I found the book in Chinese from http://books.google.com.hk/books?id=Y41H4OnymqUC&printsec=frontcover&dq=%E7%A7%A6%E6%B1%89%E5%8F%B2+%E7%BF%A6%E4%BC%AF%E8%B5%9E&hl=zh-CN&ei=C-l0TJHzHpHsvgPpg5muBg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=book-thumbnail&resnum=2&ved=0CDgQ6wEwAQ#v=onepage&q=%E7%A7%A6%E6%B1%89%E5%8F%B2%20%E7%BF%A6%E4%BC%AF%E8%B5%9E&f=false , and I checked the meaning of "鬚" in several Chinese dictionaries. For example, http://www.nciku.com/search/all/%E9%AC%9A . Any more information needed? --Certiffon (talk) 10:17, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
