According to a recent study published in 2010, the results showed that the Japanese and Vietnamese are significantly closer to each other than Koreans are to Vietnamese. The mean IBS for Japanese to Vietnamese is 0.76613, whereas the mean IBS for Koreans (from 10 different cities) to Vietnamese is 0.76578( A higher IBS indicates higher genetic similarity). This means Vietnamese has the closest genetic similarity to Japanese compared to other NE or SE Asians (See Table S1 study result)
