I striked out Iris (Ronan Keating song), because I've just merged it. I hope you don't mind... Extraordinary Machine 17:42, 2 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Nope, not at all. I appreciate it. Thanks! GassyGuy 18:21, 2 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Looks like E.M. also merged Material Girl so I'm striking that as well. I've been going thru these putting merge tags on whenever I can, as well. Jeez, it's crazy. Why don't we create a new article for every person who has ever sung "Happy Birthday"? - eo 00:22, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Did "I Love Rock 'N Roll" today. Crossed it off list. -- eo 18:10, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Freak Like Me (Sugababes song)

edit

I'm not sure if Freak Like Me (Sugababes song) should be listed on this page. It is more like a mashup of two songs than a normal cover version. Extraordinary Machine 16:15, 18 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

It's an interesting point. I listed it here because, lyrically, it stays close to the original, even though the music changes dramatically as it is adapted from the Tubeway Army tune. Here is my general take on the matter:
  • If it's just a case of sampled music, but the song stays the same, that version should be covered in the article with the original.
  • Medleys that give equal weight to the songs being used (e.g., Stars on 45 Medley) and achieve notability in their own rights merit their own articles.
  • Medleys that weight one song over the other(s) included can be covered in the article for that one song (e.g., "Where the Streets Have No Name (I Can't Take My Eyes off You)" is discussed in Where the Streets Have No Name)

It's an interesting situation, though. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts. GassyGuy 08:26, 21 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oh, and one thing I forgot to mention: actual mash-ups that achieve their own notability (e.g., Numb/Encore) also, in my opinion, merit their own articles. GassyGuy 08:27, 21 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
I wouldn't really consider "Freak Like Me" to be a mashup, but simply a cover version that uses a sample from another song. If it used Adina Howard's original vocals instead of being re-recorded by the Sugababes, then it would be a mashup. I think it should be merged. — AnemoneProjectors (talk) 11:38, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Waterloo (Swedish version)

edit

Should this be merged with Waterloo (ABBA song)? — AnemoneProjectors (talk) 11:38, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

In my opinion it should be, yes. GassyGuy 21:00, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Articles about singles rather than songs

edit

Just wondering what the preferred method is for splitting these up. Should we create two separate articles (one for each song) and place identical infobox info in each one?... I'm talking specifically about double A-side releases. Is it better to rename the article after just the first song listed as the single and then create a redirect from the second song? - eo 14:44, 8 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Personally, I think each song should have its own article. The idea is supposed to be that these songs are of encyclopaedic merit. While they will have chart aspects in common (position, single cover, release date), they should have separate histories, separate messages, separate usages, separate spheres of influence, etc. GassyGuy 16:24, 8 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Word Up!

edit

Just discovered that not only is the Word Up! (song) article only about the Mel B version, but there's also Word Up! (Korn) about the Korn version. Thought you'd like to know. — AnemoneProjectors (talk) 22:49, 23 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
