Moving of 11001001

I really don't know why you move this article. Yeah, I know there probably won't be an article with that name, but all the other trek articles - for sake of staying consistant with eachother - all contained "EPISODE NAME(SHOW episode)" in their titles. It helped distinguish them as Trek articles, so if anything else happened to use that name no one would trash the page (for being a stupid trek article) and replaced by some other crap. So, unless of course you moved others around which I haven't found yet, I ask that you please not move them anymore. It screws everything up and makes endless redirects when other articles link back to it. I ask you to see about moving it back as well to (TNG episode) like it was, which now requires an admin's redirect since it's screwed up now. Thanks Cyberia23 08:30, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Musical acoustics

Hi. There is an argument currently being had about the article Musical acoustics, and given that you're an active editor that's at least looked over it a little, I was wondering if you'd be willing to comment on the discussion at Talk:Musical acoustics.

Specifically I was attempting to remove a segment of the article which I feel is irrelevant, misleading, POV, and poorly written. I also find that the user who initially added this section (and is currently engaged in the argument) has been inserting material from his own research into many wikipedia articles, including this one. (Searching wikipedia for "greenwych.ca" and checking changes history will find a plethora of links added by this author to his own website.) There is a lot of text on the talk page right now, but I think the most relevant comments are under the heading: Talk:Musical acoustics#Please comment on the "Evolution of the diatonic scale" section. As of today, per the recent changes to the DMCA, some Abandonware is legal:

Computer programs and video games distributed in formats that have become obsolete and which require the original media or hardware as a condition of access. A format shall be considered obsolete if the machine or system necessary to render perceptible a work stored in that format is no longer manufactured or is no longer reasonably available in the commercial marketplace. You left out the phrase "when circumvention is accomplished for the purpose of preservation or archival reproduction of published digital works by a library or archive." i never said the stick wasnt analog as it is a analog all i stated was that nintendo marketed the analog stick on the controller as the control stick

Lupin III Episode Titles

Instead of just deleting the titles of the episodes which provide useful information (like what each episode is about), couldn't you have just created an entry for each TV series and moved the titles there? Well, the list by itself provides little information. If we are to expand them by providing episode-specific information, we can indeed move them to their own articles. Is that what you wish to do? If so, it would be simple for me to restore the lists at the appropriate places. I could also do that in a section of the Talk page if anybody else might want to. Lupin III Citation Needed

I noticed that you brought back the "citation needed" tag to the Lupin III page. However, there is not a single sentence in the page that is tagged as needing citation. I am not sure people know what information they need to look up for citation when nothing has been tagged as needing citation. I guess the action to take would be to either remove the citation needed tag from the article or keep it but tag the parts of the article where citation is needed so that people may look up the necessary information. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 141.217.175.129 (talk) 17:29, 20 February 2007 (UTC).

It's not really a matter of what parts need citation; that can be left up to discretion. It's that all Wikipedia articles need sources. If there aren't enough references, then it gets tagged, regardless of how many "citation needed" tags there are. Indeed, that tag has been around on Wikipedia longer than the whole "citation needed" thing. Anyway, I think a good start would be noting which episodes and which manga a given 'fact' can be found in. For instance, it says Jigen has a 0.3-second quick-draw, but where did we find that information? I don't want to tag "citation needed" on everything like that because it would clutter up the article, because not every single thing really needs citation, and it would look like I'm doubting that Jigen can do such a quick-draw, when all I want to know is where this information was discovered. - furrykef (Talk at me) 19:02, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Jaime

I redirected Jaime to Jamie because there was nothing there at Jaime worth keeping. That is, we don't really have articles on names, they are instead disambiguation pages. See Jamie, James, Fred, etc. The Jaime page before I redirected it only had one person listed there named Jaime, so it didn't seem worthy of making a disambig page. However, in doing a search just now, I see that we actually do have a number of articles on people named Jaime. If you wanted to make Jaime into a disambiguation page, and include links to the various articles we have on people named Jaime, that would certainly be reasonable. --Xyzzyplugh 12:32, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Balance of Power Change

You're right - Windows hardly existed when Balance of Power came out. In fact, Windows was so new that BOP came with a separate floppy which contained a stand-alone version of Windows so that if the player didn't already have Windows installed, they could still run the game. I suppose it could be argued that BOP was a DOS game since Windows 1.0 was little more than a GUI for DOS, but as the author of the PC port (for both the original and the 1990 versions), I have always taken pride in the fact that it was one of the first "real" (i.e. not Solitaire) games for Windows. Just an opinon

Since today seems to be the day for me giving out my unsolicited opinion, I suppose I might as well give you one too. ;) (oh and hello!)

Since, I'm not an admin, and don't have an admin screen, I don't know whether or not its obvious to an admin, but Shoeless Joe Jackson is protected from editing. By editing a protected article, it tends to .. well... not sit well with non-admins, who then feel like peons.

I had considered this, but I made the edit anyway because: 1) it had nothing to do with the edit war; 2) it was extremely minor (the removal of a comma); 3) I would have completely forgotten to make the edit after the page was unprotected, since I make these sorts of edits all the time; and 4) it didn't seem to be out of line with the protected page guidelines. I don't strongly disagree, but I'll point out that there are a couple of problems with that. First, Wikipedia's own article on free software doesn't follow that convention and doesn't even mention it (although I do think I've seen it mentioned on Wikipedia before). For another, capitalizing the first (and only the first) word of a wikilink is, unfortunately, a common mistake on Wikipedia, so it tends to look wrong. I'd prefer "Free Software" over "Free software", since the mixed casing just loooks odd. Finally, not everybody is aware of the convention in the first place. It's good to make the distinction, but I think it should be made in some other way. How about "free software under the LGPL"? - furrykef (Talk at me) 23:25, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Edit summaries

Hey, thanks for clearing up the capitalization glitches on a number of articles that I happen to have on my watchlist, but could I gently ask that you consider adding brief edit summaries to these little fixes? Whenever I see a dozen edits by the same person I think "OMG A Vandal!" or, worse yet, someone who posted the web link to their personal business on 23 pages, necessitating removal...you know how it goes. Just a quick comment to let the rest of us that you are fixing punctuation, capitalization or grammar will do much for the blood pressure of your fellow wikipedians! Thanks! I know I'm bad about this sort of thing, but the problem is that there are just so many little fixes like these that I have to make every single day that it really gets tiresome making edit summaries for all of them. I know I am grateful for the automatic "undo" text. Bots are also magnificent when they work. I suppose just a one-word note like "caps" or "style" or "grammar" would do...I usually check history on bot edits (to be sure there are no vandals prior), but often don't fret about the article itself if the edit is a trustworthy source. Re: Gameinfo links

Now that egamia has been merged in, page style is going to change utterly and these particular pages will probably be in a state of flux until they are properly migrated. It was therefore my thought that these should be delinked until they are cleaned up, and I intend to add links to pages that are done correctly (according to the new style) and have a good level of content. Somari

Your reason: "This is absolutely incorrect. It is not "nothing but graphics changes", because Somari is a Genesis game running on NES hardware. There's a lot more involved there than mere "graphics changes", especially because how the original game worked was not nearly as well-understood back then as it is now. It's not something "any one over the age of 4" could do, or anything close to it; it's one of the most impressive hacks ever done. Please be more careful when nominating things for deletion. Just because a hack is "impressive" does not make it notable and does not warrant an article. I was wrong about the "age of 4" thing, but it still doesn't need it's own article. I've gotten several more impressive hacks and pirates deleted using AFD in the past, and just because a hack or pirate is "good" does not bear any meaning on if it deserves an article or not. I don't care how many years of work went through to make it, I don't care what kind of special software/hardware was used to put it all together, all I care about if it is notable or not and fits into Wikipedia guidelines. Super Off Road

I somehow didn't even read down at the bottom of the page where I did in fact copy the article. I was mainly trying to inform people of the Track Pack and the ability to play as a different vehicle (buggy) and the fact that there were more tracks available to race on and that it was interesting. The Super Off Road page looks to mention the track pack but doesn't saying anything about the ability to choose a different vehicle and I had a discrepency (argument) with some users online about it even existing which is why I was surprised more people didn't know of this at all. Anyway, if there's anyway that information can be added and reference that page or something it would certainly satisfy me, so that these misinformed 'older gamers' can have something to reference that is actually true :D Grindking (talk) 02:32, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Please remove "original research" mark from Code page 437 article

Hello. I am the guy who put the "Lacks in i18n" section on to the CP437 article. About the peseta currency sign, there is actually no historical rationale to explain its presence in CP437, except the fact that spanish models (i.e., those sold in Spain) of the IBM electrical typewriters also had this type (inherited from older spanish models of typewriters of any brand). Remember that IBM creates CP437; so this is the unique relationship inside IBM which can connect both facts (electrical typewriters and CP437). But it's not our job to make that inference. If there is no source saying that it is the reason why, you are not allowed to say that it is the reason why. I didn't make up the rules, so I have no choice but to keep the tag there unless you can demonstrate how it doesn't break the rules. Wikipedia:No original research and particularly Wikipedia:Verifiability make it clear that every statement must be verifiable, and "verifiable" means citations, not speculation (no matter how solid your speculation may seem to you.) I'm not saying that you are wrong; I am saying that if you are right, you should be able to find a source that says the same thing.

By the way, please be aware that, in the English language, we always capitalize names such as "Spanish", "European", etc. I'm aware that the Spanish language usually does not (I speak some Spanish myself), but you should try to remember to follow the English rules when speaking English. :) - furrykef (Talk at me) 18:38, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Also, I should add that the main thing that made me add the tag was the word "maybe": "Maybe this character was included in the set because Spanish models of the IBM electric typewriter also had a single type devoted to it." Yep, that's me. Chances are, if you see the name 'furrykef' anywhere on the internet, it's me. :3 Incidentally, I dunno why I got promoted to Featured User status. Examples of Just Intonation MIDIs

I was very impressed with the sound examples you placed on the Just Intonation entry. I work with a Barbershop chorus, and we're very interested in figuring out ways to help our members learn to sing in "Just" and get the overtones instead of singing in equal.

I've been trying to figure out how to get my MIDI files (created with Finale Notebook) to play back in Just instead of Equal. Can you give me any tips on how you managed to do that? I'd love to be able to produce a variety of sound samples like the ones on this page to play them back for our chorus.
