Welcome! edit

Although some prefer welcoming newcomers with cookies, I find fruit to be a healthier alternative.

Hello, FromEast, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like this place and decide to stay.

What are the four general rules at Wikipedia?
The four general rules are to respect your fellow Wikipedians, remain neutral, cite your sources, and to ignore a rule if it prevents you from improving or maintaining Wikipedia.
How do I edit a page?
  1. Click 'Edit this page' or 'Edit' on the top of the page that you want to edit.
  2. Make your changes in the edit window.
  3. Preview your changes by clicking the 'Show preview' button.
  4. Click the 'Save page' button.
See Wikipedia:How to edit a page for more detailed information.
Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
How do I create an article?
Please use the Article Wizard to create one, then add references to the article as explained below.
What are references, sources, and citations all about?
All claims must be supported by a book, website, or news organization independent of the subject of the article. The source must be reliable, meaning it cannot be a blog, MySpace page, or personal website. This makes it difficult, if not impossible, to prove that an inaccurate statement is true, and that it should stay in the article. The policy regarding this states that the statement has to be verifiable, not necessarily true. See Wikipedia:Verifiability for more information.
How do I insert a reference into an article?

For inline references:

  1. Do a search on Ask.com, Google, or your preferred search engine for the subject of the article that you want to put a reference in.
  2. Click 'Edit this page' or 'Edit' in the Wikipedia article, and insert a claim into that article stating a fact about the subject. Don't click the save button just yet.
  3. In the search you did in step 1, find a website that supports the claim you made in step 2. Highlight the address in the address bar (where it says http://www.some-website.com/some-page.htm).
  4. Go to the reference generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out the as many fields as you can. Then click 'Get reference wiki text'.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text.
  6. In the article, after the claim you made in step 2, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied in step 5.
  7. If the article does not have a References, Footnotes, Notes, or Bibliography section, then add this below the See Also section and above the External Links section:

==References==
{{Reflist}}

For references put at the end of an article:

  1. Do a search on Ask.com, Google, or your preferred search engine for the subject of the article that you want to put a reference in.
  2. In the search, find a website that supports the claims made in the article. Highlight the address in the address bar (where it says http://www.some-website.com/some-page.htm).
  3. Go to the reference generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out the as many fields as you can. Then click 'Get reference wiki text'.
  4. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text.
  5. Go to the Wikipedia article. If the article does not have a References, Footnotes, Notes, or Bibliography section, then add this below the See Also section and above the External Links section:

==References==
{{Reflist}}

Then, add this after the {{Reflist}}, in a new line:

{{Refbegin}}
*Press paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) after this asterisk, then remove the <ref></ref> tags

{{Refend}}

VoA images edit

Hello, can you please take it slowly uploading all those VoA images? Those you uploaded yesterday haven't been clarified yet. Plese be aware that not all images contained in VoA webpages are original VoA work and therefore in the public domain. VoA also often uses images credited to other sources. The source links you have been giving very often didn't lead directly to the image, or were dead links, or in fact led to pages that showed the image was credited to some other source. Fut.Perf. 17:57, 23 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Ok, No problem. I'm very happy that you help to me. Thank You. I upload others tommorow if you clarrified them. I think all of this pictures is free under VoA license.
Thanks for providing more precise links to some items. Unfortunately, I find that in quite a number of cases the images are also found elsewhere on the web where they are credited to other news agencies; for instance File:Sadeq Larijani.jpg is found here, credited to Associated Press. This means that the image galleries on VoA are generally not a reliable source for PD status. Evidently, VoA is using images from other sources, especially AP, and for some reason, in its Iranian language version, sometimes omits to give proper image credits. Only content that is originally produced by VoA itself is automatically PD. I was under the impression that at least on the English version of VoA they typically distinguish between their own material and that of others, but I'm afraid we can't use those Iranian gallery pages for this purpose. Fut.Perf. 07:01, 24 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Ok. I don't use this image again but all of images that I upload are free. If you know Persian it was said in Website that this image is under VoA license and we have license of them. They said some of this image is from another websites but we have permision from them. You can go to website again and read it carefuly.FromEast (talk) 08:12, 24 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately I don't read Persian. What I do know is VoA's English version of their copyright statement [1], which says that the content they produce themselves is in the public domain, but that much of their content is syndicated from AP, and those parts are not free (actually, the equivalent Persian page according to [2] web translation seems to be saying the same). This is what evidently has been happening with many of the images you uploaded, because they can also be found on other websites and there are clearly credited to AP, not to VoA. – Another thing: when you upload images under a claim of {{PD-Tunisia}} or similar PD claims, you must provide proof of (a) when exactly the image was created (with several I've seen it wasn't clear they were in fact old enough), and (b) in what country they were first published. It's not enough that they were created in Tunisia. Cpyright goes by the country of publication, so if a foreign journalist took a photo in Tunisia and then published it with his news agency abroad, Tunisian copyright law never comes into play. Fut.Perf. 10:30, 24 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Can you upload the images to commons so other wikipedia project can use them? thanks -- The Egyptian Liberal (talk) 23:50, 25 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Commons Wikimedia is filtered by Dictatorship Government of Iran like Egypt in Hosni Mubarak's rule. If you can, do this subject. Thanks.

File source problem with File:Marouf al- Bakhit.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Marouf al- Bakhit.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 11:38, 31 March 2011 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. April 2011 edit

  Your addition to File:Safar.jpg has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other websites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of article content such as sentences or images. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Fut.Perf. 14:36, 3 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use File:Khaddam2.png edit

Thanks for uploading File:Khaddam2.png. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 16:51, 3 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

"state.gov" photos? edit

You have uploaded several pictures with a source notice "state.gov", claimed as {{PD-USGov}}, without providing a precise link to the source page. In several cases I have been unable to identify the photos in question on US government sites, and in at least one case [4], I now found that an image was in reality a professional news agency picture from AP, i.e. a blatant copyright violation.

Please go through all your images that are tagged in this way, and either provide a full link to the source page, or mark them for deletion (use {{db-author}} or list them here). You have 24 hours time. I'm afraid if I find any undeclared bad ones after that, I'll have to block you for deliberate copyright violation. Fut.Perf. 17:22, 3 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Since you have not responded to this request and instead continued to upload yet more images, and I now found that File:Clinton in Syria.jpg was also a copyright violation from AP ([5]), I have blocked you indefinitely. You can be unblocked if you promise to refrain from all image uploading in the future. Fut.Perf. 17:41, 4 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

File:Mousavi and Rahnavard.jpg edit

Caption reads:

"In this Tuesday, June 9, 2009 file photo, Zahra Rahnavard, the wife of reformist candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi, waves to the people during a rally at Heidarnia stadium, during the final days of the election race in Tehran, Iran. In a part of the Muslim world where women are often perceived of as the repressed gender, images of Iranian women during and after the recent elections have catapulted Iran's female demonstrators into the forefront of the country's opposition movement. Same applies to all VOA-persian photos, this photos are never free, VOA not has any photographers in Iran. I know you will not read this, Amir, but I write it down here because its only you who causes this trouble again and again and again and again. --Martin H. (talk) 01:28, 23 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:AFC Asian Cup Trophy.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:AFC Asian Cup Trophy.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Proposed deletion of File:Sadaghiani.jpg edit

The file File:Sadaghiani.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
