Linking

edit

Hi, it appears you are linking town pages to an external site which carries advertising and has a page about each town. Your phrasing of these links appear to suggest some kind of official town website, which is not the case. Furthermore, I'm not certain the linking of these pages really adds to a viewers knowledge (see the first criteria below), which leaves these links dangerously close to spam. Could you indicate what purpose you feel these links serve, and if you are in some way connected with the vistoruk.com site/s? You can find more info about Wikipedia policies & guidelines on the subject at WP:EL and WP:SPAM. 3 provisions which warn against linking and may relate to this are:

  • A page which only provides information already in the article, or which does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article here would have once it becomes a Wikipedia:Featured article.
  • A page that you own or maintain, even if the guidelines above imply that it should be linked. This is because of neutrality and point-of-view concerns; neutrality is an important and difficult objective at Wikipedia. If your page is relevant and informative, mention it on the talk page and let unbiased Wikipedia editors decide whether to add the link.
  • Do not add links whose purpose is to promote a site, especially if that site's primary purpose is to advertise or sell products or services

It would be great if you could avoid adding further links until you've had a chance to consider the above. I've removed the links in the meantime. Thanks, Deizio talk 16:08, 24 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
