October 2023 edit

Hello, I'm Yoshi24517. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Non-reproductive sexual behavior in animals, but you didn't provide a source. I’ve removed it for now, but if you’d like to include a citation to a reliable source and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Yoshi24517 (Chat) (Online) 18:15, 24 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi,
I'm sure I can find sources to add, but I didn't think what I was saying met the standard for citation, because it seemed sufficiently obvious or common knowledge. So to my mind it would've felt like making a banal statement about how Paris is the capital of France or something and larding it with unnecessary citations. Does it really need citations?
I'm sure I can add some Skinner citations or something if I need to... It just seemed to be like a bit of a stupid exercise, like citations for citations' sake.... FaulDog (talk) 18:51, 24 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm Tad Lincoln. I noticed that you made a comment on the page Non-reproductive sexual behavior in animals that didn't seem very civil, so it may have been removed. Wikipedia is built on collaboration, so it's one of our core principles to interact with one another in a polite and respectful manner. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. You are also in violation of the three revert rule. Tad Lincoln (talk) 20:04, 11 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Copy of reply left on your (Tad Lincoln's) Talk page:

You're not actually engaging with my rebuttal. You said what I wrote constituted "personal opinion and speculation." I said it didn't. Your response was to essentially threaten me because I was rude in my reply to you (never mind *your* apparently very passive-aggressive behavior throughout!).

So please, don't just threaten me like some sort of passive-aggressive petty tyrant. Regardless of whether I lost my temper and regardless of whether I was "justified" in doing so, your argument should be able to stand on its own feet. You haven't actually shown that what I wrote constituted "personal opinion and speculation."

I mean, note the hypocrisy here. It's not very "civil" of you to delete the entirety of what someone wrote based on some vague and unjustified claim (and even that only provided when I complained about your not giving *any* reason!), nor very "civil" of you to not even bother responding to my counter-argument and instead to simply revert it again. Plus, there's the additional hypocrisy that in your claim that I'm guilty of "speculation," *you're* not bothering to provide actual evidence! I hope this irony isn't lost on you.

For what it's worth, this was my first attempt to edit a Wikipedia article in a sincere attempt to improve the platform and obviously without any sort of compensation. Given that I'm a VOLUNTEER who is (believe it or not) actually trying to IMPROVE Wikipedia with his edits, your behavior has been so distasteful, unpleasant, and demoralizing that it's really discouraged me from ever bothering to attempt such a "good deed" again, lest I be "punished" again by some internet weirdo who seems to have taken it upon himself to glibly delete a few hours of someone else's work-- which seems particularly presumptuous given that I'm not being paid anything to put up with this crap. So if your intent was to drive away a would-be sincere contributor and leave him disgusted with Wikipedia as a whole, congratulations. Frankly, I would appreciate an apology.

P.S. And if you're still living in Chicago (as I presume you were at one point), we can settle this behind the school house at 3. FaulDog (talk) 20:26, 11 November 2023 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by FaulDog (talkcontribs) 20:52, 11 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
