Semi protection edit

Pages are usually semi protected only in cases of extreme vandalism, not a few cases of obvious vandalism. See WP:SILVERLOCK Tommy2010 23:58, 7 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Isn't there some way of protecting it from people messing it up?

Of course. Experienced users and administrators have a nifty little thing called [rollback]. See WP:RBK. It reverts all edits by one user in a consecutive order to the last revision by a previous user. It's super fast. Protection is a last resort, as well as blocking of users who continue to disrupt Wikipedia Tommy2010 00:05, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
ty. i've been on wiki for a while but i mainly just look up stuff i like. so i'm not 100% experencied with all the features.
I would avoid trolling, as you did just now to Justin Bieber though. There are articles we all don't like, but best not to share an opinion on them. ;) There is a reason why that page, for example, IS protected, which you can edit because you've been here for a while. Best not to abuse your editing rights --Tommy2010 00:15, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
srry man. i was seeing if its true that justin bieber fans are the most insane, most obsessed fans EVER.
It's called hormones by young girls. I'd say lady gaga has some pretty crazy fans though Tommy2010 00:22, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
lol that's true. if i have any question about wiki, i make sure to ask you. User:Eric Carr FanUser talk:Eric Carr Fan 00:29, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
how do i add my name and talk page link after my edit?

Type ~~~~. Nothing more, nothing less. Try it Tommy2010 00:32, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

hey, is that online offline status thing for admins only, or can regular users use it too. eRiC_cArR_fAn (talk) 00:55, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

May 2010 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. One of the core policies of Wikipedia is that articles should always be written from a neutral point of view. A contribution you made to Justin Bieber appears to carry a non-neutral point of view, and your edit may have been changed or reverted to correct the problem. Please remember to observe this important core policy. Thank you. —C.Fred (talk) 00:11, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

np. i was just seeing if what people say is true. that justin fans really are the most obsessed. the whole kiss is better thing was a little joke ( that's why i wrote it small and out of the way). it won't screw with that page anymore.
  • Additionally, only mark edits as "minor" if they are truly minor. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes, or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Deleting a sentence or two of sourced text is not minor; do not check the minor edit checkbox for an edit like that. —C.Fred (talk) 00:15, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
srry, i thought that taking away one sentence was minor....i thought that taking away like a paragraph was major...

Status update edit

If you write {{Statustop|online}}, on the top right of your page there will appear the status box; it can read "online", "offline", "busy", "around" and "sleeping". ^_________^ Salvio ( Let's talk 'bout it!) 02:02, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

thanks man. i'm still working on getting used to the whole wikipedia editing and stuff like that. i've been on for over a year, but i didn't really edit, i just looked at a few pages everyonce in a while. έЯїᴄ_ᴐᴬṛṛ_ḟḁṉ (talk) 02:07, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Don't mention it. ^__________^
Just a thing, I'm not sure I was clear enough, but you should replace the "online" part of the tag, with the status you want it to show, so {{Statustop|offline}}, {{Statustop|busy}} and so forth.
For the future, if you wish an experienced user to help you, you can also use the {{helpme}} tag. Salvio ( Let's talk 'bout it!) 02:17, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Oh I forgot, create your status page too: User:Eric Carr Fan/Status Tommy2010 02:19, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Talkback.and if you use mine, you'll see extra buttons at the top of the page that make it easy to change your status. You may have to close and reopen your browser to see the changes. Tommy2010 02:26, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

now its telling me " Code that you insert on this page could contain malicious content capable of compromising your account. If you are unsure whether code you are adding to this page is safe, you can ask at the appropriate village pump. The code will be executed when previewing this page under some skins, including Monobook.

The accompanying .css page for this skin can be added at User:Eric Carr Fan/monobook.css. " and the User:Eric Carr Fan/monobook.css. page is not created. what do i do now? έЯїᴄ_ᴐᴬṛṛ_ḟḁṉ (talk) 02:32, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Your page should look like this: only with your user name at the top: my page for monobook. (default skin) Tommy2010 02:35, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Looks like you got it, good job kid Tommy2010 02:40, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

ty. you know wat, you've been like my go-to man today, thanks for all the help. έЯїᴄ_ᴐᴬṛṛ_ḟḁṉ (talk) 02:41, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
No problem Eric Tommy2010 02:47, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
One quick question, and one quick think to say. this is wat i have to say. its confusing by my name is actually Travis. My hero is Eric Carr, that's why i chose the name Eric Carr Fan... but i do like the name Eric ( this maybe TMI but i want to name my first son Eric), anyway. I was wondering, how do i change the status update? i don't see the spot where it says online, so where do i change stuff to change my status. έЯїᴄ_ᴐᴬṛṛ_ḟḁṉ (talk) 02:51, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Clear your browsers cashe. you should see online, busy, around and offline at the very top next to log out. Internet Explorer: hold down the Ctrl key and click the Refresh or Reload button. Firefox: hold down the Shift key while clicking Reload (or press Ctrl-Shift-R). Opera users have to clear their caches through Tools→Preferences; see the instructions for Opera. Konqueror and Safari users can just click the Reload button. Tommy2010 03:07, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
ok, it took me a few secs to realize that you have to click edit page, then type in what your status is. i got it figured out now. thanks man. έЯїᴄ_ᴐᴬṛṛ_ḟḁṉ (talk) 03:15, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Um, it should be automatic... It'll save the page and have an automatic edit summary. Tommy2010 03:23, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

idk man, i click one of them, online for example, and it takes me to the status page you made for me, then it shows the blank text box like the one you type in to edit a page, then it automaticly goes to the status page like i hit save page and it's blank. so i check my status and it says unknown. έЯїᴄ_ᴐᴬṛṛ_ḟḁṉ (talk) 03:35, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Meh, somethings not right. See look at my page history compared to yours? It's not setting it correctly for some reason. Tommy2010 03:54, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
i'm gonna try to recopy the stuff you told me to do earlier and see if that works. έЯїᴄ_ᴐᴬṛṛ_ḟḁṉ (talk) 03:58, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
ikd man, i've tried everything, you've tried. oh well, i can deal with having to take like 5 extra seconds. έЯїᴄ_ᴐᴬṛṛ_ḟḁṉ (talk) 04:07, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Meh, maybe tomorrow we can rectify it. Did you reset the server cache? PS I like some of your userboxes ;). There are more here if you want lol Tommy2010 04:11, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
by reset do you mean the ctrl refresh, cuz i've done that a few times. tomorrow sometime if i get on we can try. ( working on a science project. won't take long, just have to test a balloon with air and a balloon with water and a match under them to see wat happens. i already know though.) talk to you tomorrow sometime. έЯїᴄ_ᴐᴬṛṛ_ḟḁṉ (talk) 04:26, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! edit

The barnstar was nice of you! Glad I could help! Tommy2010 06:25, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

changing my status edit

{{helpme}}

i need help changing my status. i have the one where u clear your cashe, then you click on online, busy, around or offline and its supposed to automaticly change your status. only when i click mine it takes me to my status page with the blank edit page up then automatcily advances to the status page and my status is unknown. the way i fix that is it click edit page then type in my status. how do i fix is so that it changes automaticly? έЯїᴄ_ᴐᴬṛṛ_ḟḁṉ (talk) 14:26, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

You need to create the page "User talk:Eric Carr Fan/Status" in order for it to work. See the documentation section for whatever status update program you are trying to use. You might also take a look at my userpages; I've got it set up on mine. Let me know if you have any questions. --N419BH (talk) 15:16, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I think the script you use doesn't work in IE. I requested the fix at User talk:Xenocidic/statusChanger2.js#Doesn't work in IE?. Svick (talk) 15:34, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I've implemented the fix, is it working now? –xenotalk 17:36, 18 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Download Google chrome, it's the best. Tommy2010 00:52, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Agree works wonders. --N419BH (talk) 01:12, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
i downloaded it. but i don't like it. the auto status update does work on chrome, but i dislike the layout and the way chrome works. i'll just stick with the classic Internet Explorer έЯїᴄ_ᴐᴬṛṛ_ḟḁṉ (talk) 19:47, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
whhatttttt! Download a skin. I personally love the black Tiesto skin. Tommy2010 23:15, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Its not the skin, i just don't like the way it works. plus i'd have to download java again for it to work or update java or whatever. i'm just so used to explorer. i'll keep my explorer and u keep your chrome. έЯїᴄ_ᴐᴬṛṛ_ḟḁṉ (talk) 00:45, 10 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

May 2009 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to Wikipedia. However, please know that editors do not own articles and should respect the work of their fellow contributors on Kiss (band). If you create or edit an article, know that others are free to change its content. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. GunMetal Angel 23:58, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

i'm trying to figure this out. i'm not new so i don't need the whole welcome to wikipedia thing. i never claimed to own any article. i just simply undid your revison because u undid like 5-6 revisons. some of which were for better. my first edit in the past few days was removeing a tiny section and i gave a reason. then a few ppl made some changes and u came along and undid all of them if anything your the one making this like you own it. rather then just clicking undo and undoing many changes, undo the ones u disagree with. so please explain to me your reasoning on why u should post this on my page. έЯїᴄ_ᴐᴬṛṛ_ḟḁṉ (talk) 01:01, 10 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia Ambassador Program in Houston edit

Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you're listed as a Wikipedian from Houston. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors from the Houston area, to help with Wikipedia assignments at Texas Southern University. Classes at TSU will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester, and the role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.

Prior Wikipedia skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).

If you are interested in being a Wikipedia Campus Ambassador, or know someone in Houston who might be, please email me or leave a message on my talk page. Thanks!--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 20:11, 1 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
