Brief History

edit

Also know as St.Peter High School, is a private church school in the northern part of Namibia. The school has grades from 8 to 12.The school belongs to the Catholic Church and it has been in operation even before Namibia's independence. Due to colonialism, the school had to close in the year 1972.The school has then been closed for all those years and an effort was made to open the school again, and it came into operation in the year 2003.The school started off as a junior Secondary school, by offering only grade 8 to 10. In 2006, the school added grade 11 to its curriculum and then grade 12 in 2007 and that is when it came to be called a high school.

Management and Education

edit

The school has been under the control of Mr Werner Kalipi as the principal who has just retired this year (2012) and he is well known for his good management and leadership skills. The school has many teachers, man and women incuding a number of Indian sisters who are always committed to their work and make sure that their learners get sufficient information necessary for good performance. The school is well known for its outstanding performance especially at the northern part of the country.Despite difficulties such as shortage of textbooks and shortage of enough Computer labs, the school still manages to produce very brilliant students. The Canisianum learners are so creative that they created their school's logo and they also managed to come up with their school anthem which if they start singing you wouldn't want them to stop singing. It once scooped up the fifth (5th) position at the national level in the NSSCO examination in the year 2007.

Accommodation

edit

The school has a hostel for both boys and girls. Being in the hostel at Canisianum does not mean having all the freedom to yourself, learners have to follow certain rules and regulations. Learners who stays in the hostel also have to do some chores during the weekend just to avoid them from becoming lazy. The hostel also provide housing for some disabled children who some of them attend at Canisianum and some attend at neighbouring schools such as [1]. The Indians sisters who teaches at the school also live in the premises. There is a church in the premises and hostel and students who reside in the hostel have to attend every church service.
