Between Two Women

edit
Hi again
Thanks for your new comments. I keep adding to the articles. One of the reasons I'm doing it gradually is that I keep getting random internet disconnections. If I've worked on a page and my connection goes I lose what I've done and have to do it all again. Adding the links take ages so I do it in stints.
I've added a link to a really good review of Between Two Women from the UK Radio Times. It sums it up well. There were lots of pieces on the web saying how valuable it was historically for those with a lesbian interest.
Again thanks for your help.

Hi there, and Welcome to Wikipedia. I constructed most of the Lesbian article, and I'm looking for a source for the information about Between Two Women. As you probably noticed, the Lesbian article is very long, so I only included films that were mentioned by reliable sources as milestones or part of significant trends. If Between Two Women has been mentioned by a source for its impact, I'd be happy to integrate that information into the article. If it is uncited, however, it will have to be removed. Thank you.

I am watching your page, so feel free to respond here. --Moni3 (talk) 20:58, 9 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

By the way, you may be interested in this: Wikipedia has a group of editors dedicated to improving and maintaining film articles. Their project page is here. If you have general questions about how to improve the film article you're working on, you can ask them here.

They have a style guideline you can find here. It is long. There are many film articles here. I wrote the small article for Desert Hearts and the much larger article for Mulholland Dr.

It took me a while to get the hang of navigating this site when I first started in 2006. It seems massive and overwhelming at times. Let me know if you need help. --Moni3 (talk) 21:14, 9 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I just picked up your message when I logged back on. I'm new to Wiki so I hope you find this message as I couldn't find where to reply.
Between Two Women seems to be a well known cult British movie. If you go to the IMDB you'll find it. I've also built the pages for the films of its director on Wiki over the past couple of days. All the info is either from articles on the web, or articles that I've saved from the web over the years that have now disappeared but still exist as hard copy newspapers and magazines. The link I put on your page should take you to the director and his films and Between Two Women. Also, you can find clips on Youtube if you type the film title in. The whole film was there for a time but has now disappeared.
I'm not sure what you mean by needing a source for impact. It won the Best Feature Film Award in New York (see IMDB) at the Lesbian & Gay Film Festival. You can buy it on Amazon in both the UK and the US. Check all the links on my Between Two Women page and you'll see it's a real British movie!
Just checked the IMDB. The 2003 award for best feature at the New York Lesbian & Gay FF can be accessed via the left sidebar. I'd have thought this was a pretty significant award. There used to be a huge amount on the web about the movie but it's now gone. By the way it's a decade old but hasn't dated one little bit. It could have been made last year.
Anything else, just let me know. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ellenandkathy (talkcontribs)
Helpful tips: I altered your message to appear under mine and to indent using a colon (you can see this formatting when you edit to reply), and Wikipedians sign their comments with four tildes ~~~~ that makes your name show up automatically after your comments on talk pages. For some reason, that's the way comments go on Wikipedia. However, it's usually not ok to alter someone else's messages so I will not do it again.
While IMDB is a good site for lots of information for movies, it is not considered a reliable source according to Wikipedia standards, because IMDB members can add and edit information and there is no oversight on the website to verify if it is accurate. When you construct an article for the first time, this is neither apparent nor usually a concern. But while you navigate around the site, you will notice that some articles are of higher quality than others. There is a way to assess articles, and you can read about these designations here. The Lesbian article is a GA, or Good Article, meaning another editor has formally assessed it to meet a certain set of criteria, among these being that the article is cited using reliable sources. So when other editors add information to it, I have to make sure the sources in the Lesbian article meet these criteria. It frequently occurs that articles degrade over time and articles will be de-listed from GA status.
I have not seen this film, but I am intrigued, and I will see what I can do to find it. If it won awards, then it is notable. For the Lesbian article, what I meant was that a source should explain how the film has had an impact on how lesbians or lesbianism is portrayed. There have been hundreds, if not thousands of films portraying lesbianism (many of them pornographic), but not all of them can be listed in the Lesbian article if it is to remain a GA. So, what is listed has been described in a book or article as having a specific influence in filmmaking or media representation of the portrayal of lesbianism. If such a source exists, as from a newspaper, book, or film journal, then let's consider integrating it into the article.
This is a bit of a crash course, so please don't be overwhelmed. Baby steps for now. I think the best thing to do is study up on how other film articles are composed, maybe study the Wikipedia policies for reliable sources, and citations, and improve the article for Between Two Women and the director. That will allow you to get some experience working in material you're familiar with. Then you can start to branch out into articles that are more advanced, perhaps considering improving the articles you're concentrating on to GA or higher. When I started here, I created Ann Bannon's article, making a lot of mistakes (I still do). But from some kind of force, I've since written 16 Featured Articles and a few other GAs. So, stick around and feel free to mess up. Someone will come by to help you out. --Moni3 (talk) 22:20, 9 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
