Shostakovich

edit

Hi, could you shed any light on the following sentence from a book about Shostakovich? It was only towards the end of 1965 that his condition was successfully diagnosed... as a form of poliomyelitis which affected the nerve endings and the bones. I've had a look at the three kinds mentioned in the polio article, but I'm not much the wiser. Thanks, Mark1 04:58, 3 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hi Mark... that sounds like the most common form, spinal paralytic polio. Polio doesn't have any direct effect on the bones, so I'm not sure what that's about, but it definitely affects the nerves connecting the spinal cord to various muscle groups. There are certainly varying degrees of severity, so perhaps the "rare" meant that the disease affected him in a very particular way. (I should point out that I'm not a doctor... I just had occasion to learn a lot about polio for a job I had at one time.) Hope this is helpful! -- Elizabeyth 13:46, 3 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Great, thanks! Mark1 02:02, 4 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

You really helped rewrite my Howard Dean interview sentence in the Cheney article. John wesley 20:55, 15 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Just streamlined it a little. :) It was a hell of a coincidence, HD mentioning that! Elizabeyth 21:03, 15 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup Taskforce

edit

Hello. You have a couple of article on your desk. If you'd like to pass them to someone else let me know and I'll see about reassigning them. If you think they are cleaned up sufficiently please close them or let me know and I'll clean them for you. If I can help let me know. RJFJR 16:45, 20 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup Taskforce

edit

I added Politics of Israel to your desk. Please take a look at it and either accept or let me know and I'll reassign it. I don't even know what it needs. Thank you. RJFJR 03:43, 13 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'll look into it. Thanks. Elizabeyth 17:46, 13 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

A long, long time ago you added 4Kids Entertainment to your desk. I'm in the process of cleaning it up right now, and would like some input on how I'm doing. I also kind of need someone else to act on the Cleanup Page when it reaches a sufficient level of quality. Thanks! --Haemo 08:38, 6 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
