Welcome! edit

Some cookies to welcome you!

Welcome to Wikipedia, Elissapoma! I am Airplaneman and have been editing Wikipedia for quite some time. I just wanted to say hi and welcome you to Wikipedia! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page or by typing {{helpme}} at the bottom of this page. I love to help new users, so don't be afraid to leave a message! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there. Again, welcome!

Help Request edit

{{helpme}} I currently do not have access to upload a photo to the bio I wrote for Larry Irving. The photo is located at http://mms.businesswire.com/bwapps/mediaserver/ViewMedia?mgid=189862&vid=5&download=1. Is someone able to assist me in adding this small headshot to this page? Thank you, Elissa Elissapoma (talk) 14:25, 10 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

You could upload pictures on commons, which does not require any special permissions, and is the place where all appropriate non-copyright pictures belong, but, in this case, that appears to be a copyright picture, and therefore we cannot use it on Wikipedia unless the copyright holder releases the picture under an appropriate licence (which would have to permit commercial use and modification of the pic).  Chzz  ►  14:31, 10 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
Please create a new section while adding {{helpme}}s. I would like to ask a few questions:
  • Do you own the copyright of the image?
  • Have you got the permission to produce it in a larger public?
  • Is it a promotional photo?
  • Is it a screenshot, or cover page of a book?
if any of above question's answer is "yes", you can upload the photo. Please make two more edits to wikipedia to upload a photo.
I hope this gives you some idea of how things work. For more help, you can either;
  • Leave a message on my own talk page; OR
  • Use a {{helpme}} - please create a new section at the end of your own talk page, put {{helpme}}, and ask your question - remember to 'sign' your name by putting ~~~~ at the end; OR
  • Talk to us live, with this or this.
Best wishes, --Srinivas 14:36, 10 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

{{helpme}} Thank you for your replies and guidance. The photo is a publicity photo, distributed to the media and others by the HP Corp. Would that distribution also apply to Wikipedia? Thank you kindly for helping a newbie! Elissa Elissapoma (talk) 14:41, 10 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

If you are quite sure about the copyright status of the image, go ahead and upload it. Please make to more edits to wikipedia, minor or major, so that you account is autoconfirmed and you get the right to upload images. Have a nice time with Larry Irving and hope you have a pleasant stay at wikipedia. --Srinivas 14:49, 10 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
