Hoenlohe edit
editI was the one who added the passant guardant. I noticed you changed the animal in your re-edit to a Lion. Not sure if you mean it to be a lion or a leopard. Thanks - keith ElfleinKR (talk) 20:55, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
- Hello Elflein. In English and French heraldry lion rampant guardant and leopard are synonyms. But you never give the attribute for the leopard (per definition he is rampant guardant), in addition, the term lion rampant guardant seems to be preferred in English heraldry (in French it's the opposite). The advantage in this is that it avoids some confusion created by the apparent existence of actual leopards in English heraldry (don't think I've ever seen one, but I mostly deal with medieval arms anyhow). Your original edit was not wrong, just not necessary, my reversal was in the end no better which is why I then went for the lion rampant guardant... Heraldry can get messy at times and for me it's worth as I started out with English heraldry, by my origins I then got into French heraldry and these days have to deal a lot with German heraldry (which can be quite different).--Caranorn (talk) 22:23, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
