A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Linkle, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. --OnoremDil 14:44, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

  Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

Let me reassure you that my writing here means I don't think your username is grossly, blatantly, or obviously inappropriate; such names get reported straight to Wikipedia:Usernames for administrator attention or blocked on sight. This is more a case where opinions might differ, and it would be good to reach some consensus — either here or at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names. So I look forward to a friendly discussion, and to enjoying your continued participation on Wikipedia. Thank you. shoy 23:18, 9 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Shoy, Thank you for noticing my username, Elegantwebpages, and for your concern that it may not meet Wikipedia's username policy. Please review the Wikipedia username policy so that you may clearly specify, enumerate, and explain each and every conflict that you have detected between my username, Elegantwebpages, and the Wikipedia username policyElegantwebpages 04:52, 10 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm particularly concerned about point 4 of WP:IU entitled "Promotional Usernames". Seeing as how your contribution Linkle featured a link to your webpage of the same name of your username, I'm worried that you may be trying to use Wikipedia as some sort of promotional vehicle. Please note that adding your website to Wikipedia won't increase your page rank on Google or anything similar, see WP:NG. I sincerely hope this isn't the case. shoy 23:01, 10 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Shoy, thank you for clearly stating your concern and accurate conclusion that the appearance of the username Elegantwebpages on Wikipedia will not increase page rank on search engines. Elegantwebpages is a brand new website, and several weeks away, at least, from being promoted in any manner. I am intimately aware of and have developed a straightforward method of promoting a webpage to the first 400+ positions in a search engine without resorting to even hidden artifacts, and have authored several short articles on the subject. At any rate I hope you and the other editors will accept my apology for taking up so much of your time. I mistakenly thought that Wikipedia was a registry that accepted newly minted terms and acronyms on a first come, first served basis. I was unaware that decisions were arrived at by consensus. Therefore, I respectfully request that you and/or other authorized editors delete my request to add the term(s) Linkle, linkles to the Wikipedia reference work. I must confess that I am not able to navigate your site with surety, nor am I confident in my ability to delete the request in question. Elegantwebpages 00:25, 11 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Only WP:ADMINs have the power to delete pages. I've put in a request that the article be WP:SPEEDY deleted per author request. Now that you know a little bit more about what Wikipedia is and is WP:NOT, you are welcome to choose a different username and contribute in good faith if you wish. shoy 22:14, 11 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
