Welcome

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia; I don't have time to find the "welcome" template, which provides links to varous resources; but just wanting to ask that you put cited materials in "References", which should follow the "See Also" and beeahd of "Further reading". I think WP:Style may be the appropriate overall styleguide, I'm not sure of the link. Also please link the first instance of any subject or organization etc named in added materials - "wikifying" the content for interlinkability - and also please do not quote verbatim frmo cited works; rewording and other methods can be used to "crib" source materials without WP:Copyvio or WP:Plagiarism (even though you would seem to be the contributor yourself, it's still not the way things are done in Wiki). Any questions you have please drop by my talkpage or at teh discussion pages at {{WikiProject Canada}}, which you are also invited to join.Skookum1 (talk) 22:26, 8 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia! I'm not 100% sure whether the organizations you are creating articles about meet the notability criteria or not, and I hate to mark them for deletion until I have a better idea about their significance, but I'd also hate for you to waste your evening creating articles if they don't meet that standard. Could you check out the criteria and try to add the independent sources that would be needed to make that clearer? Thanks! -FisherQueen (talk · contribs),~

Ahousaht, British Columbia

edit

I wanted to advise you that your expansion of content in this article included material not acceptable in WP:MOS and also that a lot of the content added should have been placed in Ahousaht First Nation, which is a government article as opposed to an article about place/location. There are reasons such a distinction exists, i.e. between community/place, government/band and ethnography/people articles, also in some cases the actual Indian Reserve warrants a separate article. I'll find the discussion in {{NorthAmNative}}'s talkpages for you sometime, for now just wanted to advise you to expect major "fixes" to your expansion, and also migration of the gtovernment-related material to the Ahousaht First Nation article; please when expanding or creating indigenous articles to observe existing guidelines and standards....Skookum1 (talk) 19:49, 11 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

NB Ahousat, British Columbia vs. Ahousaht First Nation

edit

Please note I migrated your content from the placename/location article to the government/band article, where it belonged; some shorter form of certain materials can belong on the placename article but they're meant as different topics and shoudl be focussed differently; similarly the map on the Ahousat, British Columbia page was for the First Nation and its territory, not for the location of the community. Also please note that Ahousaht by itself could/shoudl be for the ethnography and culture-history of that particular group of today's Ahousaht First Nation (which I gather is composed of three "ahts"). On the location article can be stuff about the facilities an the location, access, geography etc. Also please note WP:NOT as "Wikipedia is not a directory". I appreciate your material doesn't seem to be copyrighted so there's no copyvio, and maybe I can organize a template to the effect "this article uses material from Ecotrust Canada", which we do for Dictionary of Canadian Biography and the Canadian Encyclopedia, as there really is no other source like it but without such boilerplate some admin sometime will perceive WP:Copyvio and blank any materials which copy from other websites, unless those websites are either public domain or "fair use". Your material's great, other than the staff directory, but please try and link wiki-style, which is teh whole point of wikipedia...c.g. Cliff Atleo, Jr. and Cliff Atleo, Sr. could be linked, even if they're just redlinks; it means they deserve an article....similarly Maquinna as an article, while need revamped to indicate its use as a name among this group - it's also in use among hte Mowachaht, isn't it? Anyway just wanted to give you a heads-up on the changes, and to ask that if you're going to add material to Wikipedia in such volume please be observant of the guiding parameters as it's otherwise a make-work project for experienced editors to fix it all up and put things in their right place. Feel free to ask questions on my talkpage if you have any questions or need help figuring something out.Skookum1 (talk) 02:53, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Question about this account

Hi are you the same editor who was using this account in 2008? If not, you should stop using it and make a new one, and without the name of the organisation in it (see WP:ORGNAME). We don't allow role accounts here, every account needs to be used by only one person per WP:NOSHARING so if this account was used by someone else in the past, it should only be used by them. Noted. Will create a new one. Thank you.
