NWFP

Please stop changing all instances of the North-West Frontier Province to the very modern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Although fine for articles dealing with modern subjects, this is not appropriate for historical subjects. Wikipedia uses the names that were in use at the time - we are not in the business of revisionist history. Any article about events before 2010 should continue to refer to the NWFP. Thanks Nec for your nice reminder. Though I tried to keep a reference to the old name where ever it was needed, I understand there would be some places where the change may create confusion. Will be careful onwards.

Thanks. It's not really necessary to mention Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at all in a pre-2010 context. Clicking on the link to the NWFP will let people know the new name, if they need to. Can I also ask about the hyphen you're using in the name of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa? If it officially has a hyphen then the article should be renamed accordingly and no piping is necessary; if it doesn't then one shouldn't be inserted. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:16, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

The hyphen is not included officially but is a common use as Khyber is another place and to avoid confusion it is written with a hyphen.

Yes, while you are doing a splendid job updating modern articles from NWFP to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could I ask you to be careful about changing historic references. If (for example) a British official had the title of "Commissioner for the NWFP" or a regiment of the old British Indian Army had NWFP as a battle honour, then it is probably not appropriate to substitute the modern designation for the region. @ Buistr I made some mistakes in the begining but soon realise it thanks to Necrothesp as well. After that I have restricted my work to locations only but I have abandoned that task at the moment too as I have seen many wrong/subjective material in many articles. As at the moment I am away from the region, I will like to do a more collaborative work with wikipedia and to resolve the stubs in Khyber-Pukhtunkhwa category. I will form a committee of my students from concerned places to get more appropriate information.
