Speedy deletion nomination of Robert J. Costa

edit

A tag has been placed on Robert J. Costa requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Robert J. Costa

edit

(edit conflict) I wanted to advise you of a couple Wikipedia policies that apply to your recently-created article.

First of all, I notice that the text is strikingly similar to this (which you referenced). We require attribution for direct quotations, for copyright reasons—but in a case such as this, it would make far more sense to just rephrase it in your own words, because it's bad form to use a block of copyrighted text to comprise the entire body of an article. (If this isn't changed quickly, it will be necessary to flag this article for copyright violation—speedy deletion is a probable outcome, in that case.)

Next, with regard to the subject of the article, Robert J. Costa, we need to see independent evidence of notability. That generally means that the article subject has received prominent and substantial coverage in media or scholarship. We have to refer to reliable sources in order to allow for verifiabilityoriginal research is not permitted. In this case, the Amazon review is not a sufficiently reliable source. The other source ([1]) doesn't cover Costa as a major subject—it just mentions him by way of his book, once. (Again, without evidence of notability, deletion is probable.)

And also, if Costa is currently alive, the biographies of living persons policy applies.

For style and formatting information, see the welcome message above. See also WP:WPBIO for information on writing biographical articles.

If you can't improve the article, and it does end up getting deleted, consider starting anew in user space, and moving it once you've found and inserted further well-referenced information. (Any administrator can provide you with a copy of the deleted article, if you want it.) TheFeds 03:25, 26 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Stop removing template

edit

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with Robert J. Costa. Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion, and make your case on the page's talk page. Thank you. WWGB (talk) 03:29, 26 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Survey

edit

Hi Dreston!

I have put together a survey for female editors of Wikipedia (and related projects) in order to explore, in greater detail, women's experiences and roles within the Wikimedia movement. It'd be wonderful if you could participate!

It's an independent survey, done by me, as a fellow volunteer Wikimedian. It is not being done on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you'll participate!

Just click this link to participate in this survey, via Google!

Any questions or concerns, feel free to email me or stop by my user talk page. Also, feel free to share this any other female Wikimedians you may know. It is in English, but any language Wikimedia participants are encouraged to participate. I appreciate your contributions - to the survey and to Wikipedia! Thank you!
