editwhat needs to be in this entry? What readings, and what part of them? Where should this article be located? On its own, or as part of something else? For example, police in general? What subsections should this article consist of?

The article I have chosen to intervene on is entitled "Police corruption" Police corruption fits with our in class subject "Police Culture" because it is a underlining factor that has been visible seen throughout police history in the America's and world wide. With police corruption being a wide spread problem that effects individuals majorly due to the power police have now possess it should not be expressed lightly. In beginning to intervene on this article i will first read each section carefully, looking for any areas of improving. I will take note of the given areas to see if intervention t any point will be suitable for our course assignment. Once found i will reflect back on my training to see the best ways to improve the section of my selection. I will then scan that area briefly looking for any typo's or ways to improve specifically. Once found I will present these was of intervention until I receive further instructions on what will be the best way to complete my intervention. I will also scan the talk page to see if anyone else has pointed out flaws in this article that i can take on to improve as well. Through intervention I would like to add sources to increase the impact of selective law enforcement and its impact on chosen population to enforce the law upon, which has been linked to mass incarceration of particular races. This corruption can be could for police business when needing a population to enforce laws on to stay relevant and functioning. This area of the article could possibly stand alone as its own subject due to impacts in society which are widespread. If possibly i would also like to add information to the United states section of corruptions which is underrepresented compared to its counterparts around the world. The underestimation could come to it being unfavorable by the popular opinion in this country to do research on and even when it is down would it gain support for its findings to be broadcast through major outlets to reach the people who it affects the most. The information in this area is so "slim" and could be strengthened if for information was added. Also will like to add the article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driving_while_black , if their has all ways seem to be a bad relationship between the police and black people could this over policing be grounded in police culture do to the historical encounters between police and black people. The article is worth to look into and possibly be intervened by me before the end of the semester.

editPolice culture, I believe should be its own article. There are multiple subsections that should be included such as an in-depth definition, criticisms of the term, and how this thought process effects police and the general population. Also, we should look into other articles that reference this term, like the blue wall of silence page and potentially add a link back to our new police culture page. We may also want to think about adding to the general police page as well once we do the original police culture page.
A good starting point would be the Martin article titled “Police Culture: what it is, what it does, and what we should do with it.” Beyond that we could incorporate some of the overview articles from the beginning of the semester as well. Depending on the definition we decide upon, there are many other articles from our class we could use but we may need to find more information on the topic.

editFor our new entry on Police Culture, I feel that the possibilities are endless on what we can include in our article, simply because there can be so many different meanings as to what police culture is. First, we should start as most Wiki articles begin, which is with a definition on how we are defining "Police Culture." This way, readers will essentially know the tone of our article. Since there is no current article on WikiPedia about Police Culture, we can mold this definition in our own unique way. What also needs to be in this entry is various examples of how and why we feel that Police Culture is the way that we defined it. For example, if we say that we feel Police Culture is the way that new police officers conform shortly after recruitment, we should then follow up with examples as to support this claim. This article should be its own entity and exist independently from other articles. I think this topic needs to be thoroughly explored in and of itself. The subsections that I think should be included in our article on Police Culture are as I stated above, a clear definition of police culture, how police culture has shaped itself in the US, and we could also include common misconceptions about police culture as the public views it. Lastly, one such source that we could draw on would be Egon Bittner's "The Capacity to use Force as the Core of the Police Role," to help describe the use of force in the police occupation.

editFor our topic of police culture I feel it is (as stated above) best to be its own article. With this idea of police culture I feel we need to include the good as well as the bad of police culture which forms the public opinion of how law enforcement operates. There are many articles including things such as militarization and the us against them mentality that forces the culture down a dark path. Looking on the reverse there are also the positives such as outlining that (initially at least) a great number of officers enter into enforcement with the desire to help the public thus creating a culture of individuals wishing to assist. An article from class that can outline a little of the culture is the Manning, Maanen piece entitled Policing: A View From The Street, and in specific the section on police occupational culture that goes into showing how and where they get the culture from. Articles to be linked to could possibly include internal affairs which looks into the negative side of police culture.

editFor the topic of police culture I feel that it is best to be its own article, as many others have also stated above. When thinking about police culture some of the items that need to be focused on is what is meant by culture? How does it affect the way police do their job. Some of the possible articles that I feel should be in place should look at is the type of training that is completed. Looking at how new hires are trained from the academy verses the training that is completed with the department they hire into. We should also look into the differences in the what police culture means to LEO's verses what the general public believes.Jsayles1 (talk) 21:28, 18 October 2018 (UTC)
