Speedy deletion nomination of Conference 2.0

edit

A tag has been placed on Conference 2.0, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of Conference 2.0 and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

Thank you for trying to create a new article in Wikipedia, although please review the notice above which provides some guidelines on what is necessary for proper article inclusion on Wikiepdia. Chikinsawsage (talk) 18:37, 9 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi Djm, I got your message at my talk page about the sub-page you're working on here. It looks like you've made some improvements to make it sound less promotional. It's still got a few issues though, and doesn't read like an encyclopedia article. For one, it sounds more like it was intended as an essay, a writing style which is generally discouraged on here. Also, the page lacks context in the first sentence (the article's intro, or "lead"). This may be easier to fix, however.

If you notice other Wikipedia articles (i.e., Food, Microsoft, U2) the beginning of the article has a pattern: "Subject title is a [basic definition]". The "[basic definition]" might be anything similar to: "XYZ is a medical company", "XYZ is a math concept", or "XYZ is an American politician". The first sentence of an article should usually follow that pattern, to give a basic definition to somebody who knows absolutely nothing about the topic. Also, it helps to link a few terms by adding [[double brackets]] around keywords. I've tweaked the formatting for your external links section to make it more typical of our articles. Also, don't forget to add several more reliable sources about the topic (for instance, media/news articles from websites like BBC, ABC news, CBS news, etc.) Wikipedia has standards of "notability", so try adding third-party references to prove that this topic should be included on the website. You may wish to use Google's News Archive search engine. JamieS93 be kind to newcomers 16:39, 12 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
