Declaration of Independence of Bangladesh

edit

Who formally declared the independence of Bangladesh? Is it Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,a great Bengali leader or a Pakistani army officer Major Zia who revolted against Pakistan in Chittagong? People heard the voice of Major Zia over radio on March 26/27. we still remember that Major Zia said,I Major Zia do hereby declare the independence of Bangladesh on behalf of our great leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He further appealed to the world leaders to come forward to suffort the struggle of people of Bangladesh. But Awami league claims that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared independence of Bangladesh on the night of 25th March before he was arrested by the Pakistan Army. But tajuddin Ahmad, first Prime Minister of Bangladesh in his diary and subsequent statement said that Bangabandhu refused to record a statement declaring independence of Bangladesh. I invite readers here to put light on this issue. Please quote only documents not emotions or statements.
