Nowrap

Art, it's not that I don't understand the purpose of the "no wrap" coding. I do. It's just completely unnecessary to use it in every instance of month-date in text or footnotes. Moreover, there is absolutely no reason to be concerned with the wrapped-split of month and date when it does occur. This is "make work." Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 04:08, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
It's automated, so it's free work along with other edits. WP:NBSP is a Wikipedia guideline, so I'm puzzled why I'm explaining User:Art LaPella/Because the guideline says so to a lawyer. But anyway I'm not a revert warrior, so I've said my piece. Art LaPella (talk) 05:02, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

Parade All-American categories

DL - Saw your note on renaming the Parade cats. I think its a fine idea IF we can just get a ref that this is correct. Parade doesn't use an apostrophe so I followed suit with the boys basketball, girls basketball and boys soccer categories. If you want, just put the categories in for speedy renaming in CfD. They definitely should be correct, I just think some definitive "grammar rules" should be referenced. Rikster2 (talk) 13:23, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Nice. Parade uses a grammatically incorrect construction? LOL One more corruption of the English language for which we may thank the American journalism "profession." What do you think about simply spelling it using the correct plural possessive noun, just like we do for men's and women's college basketball teams (and other sports)? After all, we don't say "men basketball," do we? If you have no objection, I'll make the request through CfD, as suggested.
Related, but different question: what are you using for your lists of Parade All-Americans? When I created the football category, I included the names from an all-time top-50 list on the Parade website, plus whatever additional names I could glean from recent articles. Clearly incomplete. I'm hoping you have found all-time lists somewhere.
BTW, I recently incorporated your hoops stats for Rick Casares into the article. Thanks again for your thoughtfulness in providing the stats and citation. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 13:43, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Please do submit the categories for renaming - I wasn't sure which was correct so I defaulted to Parade's format. Most of the Parade lists are searchable online through Google News archive searches - you can usually get a scan of the actual Parade article. When this doesn't work, I have a subscription to a site called newspaperarchive.com which has a bunch of other papers. Between the two I have been able to piece together all of the basketball honorees from 1957 (the first team) to present. Rikster2 (talk) 13:53, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Impressive. You clearly spent some time compiling that basketball list. I use Google News Archive quite a bit, but for whatever reason it didn't dawn on me to use it for the Parade articles. Makes perfect sense because the "magazine" is really a Sunday newspaper insert. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 14:02, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Parade part II

DL - did you get a chance to put these in for renaming? I ask because now some genius has created a new basketball category with the apostrophe to "fix" matters - with the result being two highly confusing categories out there. Would you mind putting the 2 boys' basketball categories in as a merge request? I'd do it myself but am on vacation and have limited "Wikibility" on my smartphone. Many thanks! Rikster2 (talk) 18:31, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Nice. I have not done so, but I will do so in the morning, Rikster, before we have multiple categories with dueling apostrophes. LOL Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 04:09, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

List of Florida Gators soccer players

I think List of Florida Gators soccer players would be better as a section at Florida Gators women's soccer. The list is too short to have its own page and the main article is not very long. What are your thoughts? Eagles 24/7 (C) 20:24, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Well, Eagles, I could go either way. I was thinking about expanding the soccer list with another two dozen first-team All-Americans who didn't go pro. We have six other stand-alone Florida Gators players lists (baseball, basketball, football, golf, tennis and Olympians), and I sort of like the symmetry, and the Gators soccer program has been outstanding under Becky Burleigh and is probably deserving of greater WP exposure. The Florida Gators football article is too long, and a lot of the "listy" type stuff should probably either be deleted as redundant or shifted into stand-alone lists. My biggest problem is every article and list needs work, and there is only so much of me. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 04:04, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
I still think that because the list is so small, it should not have its own article and should be moved to a section at Florida Gators women's soccer. However, when the list is expanded like the other Florida Gators sports athletes articles, it should be moved to its own article again. Eagles 24/7 (C) 19:28, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
I understand where you're coming from, Eagles. Give me a couple of days over the weekend, and I'll expand and enhance to make it a respectable stand-alone list. Frankly, all of these Gator athletes lists need work, and the golfers and tennis players lists aren't in substantially better shape than the soccer players list, but I will prioritize work on this one. Thanks. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 19:35, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. Keep up the good work. Eagles 24/7 (C) 20:04, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
