Moving Press-up to "Push-up" edit

As a user who has participated in move discussions for the article Press-up, I invite you to weigh in on the move discussion currently under way: Talk:Press-up#Requested_move_2. -Clconway (talk) 01:11, 6 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Are you sure you got the right guy? I don't remember having any opinion on this. Push-up, press-up; I don't really care. My only point would be that I see no reason to change an article title which has been stable for years. -- Derek Ross | Talk 07:11, 6 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.

For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:27, 15 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Paddington Pollaky edit

Derek, I am currently trying to learn more about the life of Ignatius Pollaky. I believe that I have read most of the online newspaper accounts of Pollaky's life and career, but a few of the items in your Wikipedia article are new to me. Would you be willing to share with me the various sources you've consulted? (mjkuhns@ohio.net) Many thanks for whatever help you may be able to provide, as well as for your work on the article. --66.219.170.210 (talk) 20:04, 15 May 2011 (UTC) Matt Kuhns, Lakewood OhioReply

Matt, I'm very happy to share all my sources with you. Links to most of the sources are available on the discussion page. I may possible have a few more links that I didn't put there. I'll check but if you could let me know the specific details that are new to you, it'll give me a better idea of what to get for you. Note that all my research was online through Google and Google Books, so some of the links may be unavailable now. Such is the nature of the web, alas. -- Derek Ross | Talk 07:51, 16 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
By the way, it's a pleasure to hear from someone else who is interested in Pollaky. I think he is a fascinating subject. If you have managed to garner any details of his early life before arriving in England, I would be delighted to hear it. As you must have noticed I have been unable to find out anything about his life in Hungary, so the article is currently blank in that area. -- Derek Ross | Talk 08:09, 16 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi Derek, I quite agree about Pollaky as an interesting figure. If I could ever find enough information, I would very likely try to write a full biography of the man; he seems a character worth reminding ourselves of. Two of the items in your article which I am curious about: surname was used as a humorous remonstrance, playing chess in the Public Room; I haven't found a note in the discussion for these. Also curious about the son and three daughters; in searching through online indexes I found six Pollakys born in Kensington from 1863 to 1872 (but have not accessed full records to know for certain their parentage). As and when I get my own research sorted out I will be happy to pass along anything additional that I find; I see that you have read the 1934 Argus story, which hints at so many fantastic things but which seems to want corroborating information for most. Unfortunately, I've found nothing about his life prior to arrival in England... One note which comes to mind at the moment, though: were you aware of the stage play "FOUL PLAY' from the late 1860s which featured a detective "Ignatius Paul Pollaky Wolouski?" This seems to have been based on a novel by Charles Reade of 1868, from what I can tell.--66.219.170.243 (talk) 19:48, 16 May 2011 (UTC) Matt KuhnsReply

Thanks for that, Matt. I'll put my answers on the Pollaky discussion page, in case other people want to know the reasoning behind these claims. That way it's all together in the logical place. Oh, and I wasn't aware of Foul Play. Thanks for that too. -- Derek Ross | Talk 06:06, 17 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

A kitten for you! edit

I'm sorry for making you cry on the talk:British Empire page. We need to be united against British tyranny and oppression, not fighting amongst ourselves, brother!

Dry your eyes and we'll rid the world of the Britannic menace together.
