Yes, I'll be your mentor. The first step is to pick a specific topic and make sure there are sources for it. I'm not sure if you are being asked to creat a new article from the beginning, or develop an older one, possibly an older one that is very incomplete. You mentioned "international aid or maybe the practice of monetizing food aid.". It strikes me that the first is far too broad--isn't that essentially the topic of the entire class. I notice from the article aid there is a very small section on food aid. Perhaps that might be suitable, if you wanted a broad topic; but the narrow topic will work as well, based on a quick check of google news archive.

I normally advise new editors to prepare by doing some minor work on existing articles--any existing article. I doubt there's a article here that couldn't do with clarification or copy-editing or updating, and most of them need better references. You'll find it easier to pick those that are not active subjects of dissension--check the article history. DGG ( talk ) 02:14, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Thank you, I agree international aid would be too broad, but I suggested the category in case you had an idea about something that is in great need of work. Our assignment is flexible about whether we develop a stub or write a new article. I thought the food aid section of the aid article had potential for expansion, and I need to look at more sources, but monetization of food aid also only has a small portion under the monetization article. However, monetization may be too focused on the US, as I believe the EU and Canada both primarily donate towards food aid in cash. I will do more preliminary research and post more specific ideas by next Friday.Delviniot (talk) 02:28, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

I'm still looking at sources and working to focus what I want to write. Monetization and the other ways of funding food aid seem to be where I want to go, but I'm still looking at related issues. It seems to relate to Wikipedia articles on Aid, Monetization, and WFP. Please let me know what you think about this direction. Funding of food aid is a controversial issue, so it will be very important to maintain a neutral point of view. Delviniot (talk) 04:53, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
