Speedy deletion of Izzy Santino

edit

A tag has been placed on Izzy Santino, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia per CSD a7.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. Bfigura (talk) 22:39, 29 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hunter S. Thompson

edit

Hi! Regarding your edits to Hunter S. Thompson - you may be coming close to breaking Wikipedia's three-revert rule by repeatedly reverting the removal of Izzy Santino. While Mr Santino may well have been influenced by Thompson, consensus seems to be that this person is not (yet) notable enough for his own article, and also that he doesn't need to be mentioned in the HST article. Unfortunately, it would be impossible to list every writer who was influenced by every writer with a WP article; the lists would be unmanageably long, and, I imagine, would probably attract hordes of kids who want to be the next HST, or Lee or Plath! If you do believe Mr Santino should have an article on Wikipedia, you might like to read Wikipedia's guidelines on notability of individuals, and WP:Verifiability, which discusses the importance of having reliable, secondary sources. If there's anything I can do to help you, you can leave a message on my talk page. Thanks! --Kateshortforbob 10:39, 30 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Izzy Santino

edit

No, you don't need permission from Izzy Santino. Some things, like pictures, often do need permission from the creator before we can put them on WP, but that's more of a copyright thing. One issue you have to be careful about when writing articles on living people are the guidelines at Biographies of living people. It is particularly important that articles about living people are neutral, verifiable and contain no original research. Basically, if you want to say something controversial about a living person, you must have a reliable source for it.

However, that's a general rule. About Santino specifically. From the notice that was placed on your talk page (above), the Izzy Santino article was deleted because it "did not assert the importance of the subject". I am not able to look at the article (only administrators can look at deleted articles), but general guidelines for creative professionals (eg. writers) are:

  1. Has the person been cited by peers or successors? (for example, Hunter S. Thompson has been significantly written about by others)
  2. Did they create a significant concept, theory or technique? (eg Gonzo journalism)
  3. Did they create, or take part in creating a well-known work or body of work which was the subject of an independent book or film, or multiple independent articles or reviews?
  4. Has their work become a significant monument, part of a significant exhibition, received significant critical attention, or is represented in the permanent collections of internationally significant libraries?

A person does not have to have done all these things to be notable. The guidelines are not hard-and-fast: one can be notable without meeting any of them, or one can meet all of them and still not be notable. I think the most important thing for Santino is: have people written about him? If you have reliable sources where he has been discussed or reviewed, that would be a good start for asserting his notability. It might be a good idea to ask Bfigura, who requested the deletion, or Irishguy who deleted it, what they thought the specific problems were with the article. Remember, though, that they were following WP policies, and there is no guarantee that an article will be retained if it doesn't comply with policy. If you would like, you can work on an article in your own userspace, rather than in the main encyclopedia, until it's up to scratch. Click on User:Darylmurphy/Izzy Santino to start.

If there's anything else I can give you a hand with, you can reply here or on my talk page. Thanks! --Kateshortforbob 11:21, 30 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
