Spam in The Gathering (church)
editHello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on The Gathering (church), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because The Gathering (church) is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting The Gathering (church), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. - Daparnell: I would be happy in assisting you to ensure that this page stays on wikipedia, however I will need your assistance. I can only do this, however, if we can assert it's notability. Wikipedia is not a directory, nor a place for advertising. In order to be listed, your specific church will need to have something notable about itself to be included. Please reply here if you want to try to keep this article around. I cannot guarantee anything, but am always willing to help. Tiggerjay (talk) 03:14, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- Tiggerjay: Some explanation of exactly what in the article consisted of "advertising" would have been helpful. I assume you mean the last paragraph in which it is stated that anybody is welcome in the church. I would like to respectfully request that the page be reposted, deleting that portion to make the page more of a historical article. Frankly the mere fact that The Gathering is a new church in the city of St. Louis, which sees few new churches except in suburban areas, is "notable" in and of itself. If there are other portions of the text which consist of advertising, I would like to hear about that so we can discuss how to further change the article. --Daparnell (talk) 13:27, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- Deleted again. "Notable", for Wikipedia purposes, doesn't mean "I, the author, think the subject is noteworthy in some way." It means "The subject has been noted by reliable independent sources." See WP:V. NawlinWiki (talk) 01:19, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Wow. I was in the process of adding in the links that prove notability. You were a little speedy there. I will now be recreating the pages with the links that prove notability. --Daparnell (talk) 01:35, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Well, you do now have a link from one reliable independent source (the Missourian article), so the article is no longer subject to speedy deletion. I still question its notability and have added a tag to that effect. I've added the same tag to the Piney Grove church article, although I suspect its notability comes from its being over 100 years old. In any event, the administrators do not have each of the 2 million+ Wikipedia articles in mind when deciding what to do with a new one. See WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS.
