Edits at Mabel Agyemang

Hello Daisy1213: I was a little hurt to read in your edit summary that my thoughtfully considered edits were regarded as "vandalism".

It's easily understood that you might think it better to keep the longer quotation, but trimming it a little, down to its essentials can hardly be viewed as ill-intentioned. (Perhaps you did not mean what I am thinking you meant, but I can't see who else it was about...) I left a long explanation at the talk page, then afterwards noticed the "vandalism" ES, so thought I would raise it here, directly with you. I am only ever a talk page or a ping away, and happy to discuss my edits any time. There's no need to say that about my edits, I am always ready to work with other editors.

The Gambia is the country's official name, yes, but I did not change it to "Gambia" in the article. There is no capital 'T' used when the name occurs sentence-medially. The name is still the Gambia, though. Please see MOS:THECAPS.

If I have misunderstood you, I apologise. Happy to hear from you any time. Thanks. Where's my PW? (talk) 14:47, 27 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Where's My PW?,

My apologies for revising your work without connecting with you. I had wanted to leave a message on your talk page but I couldn't as you did not appear to have one (yet). Please consider creating one as this is always helpful.

I also wholeheartedly apologize for referring to your work (edits) as vandalism. Looking back, it was unnecessary and unkind; I am sorry.

Re: the changes, The Gambia is not like other countries which use "the" in their name. It is unique in that the article remains capitalised regardless of where it appears in a sentence, i.e. it does not conform to standard English language rules regarding the use of the definite article. You may find it interesting/useful to review The Gambia's own constitution, the US State Department, and the UK Foreign Office if you wish. I believe you'd agree that the UK Foreign office can be considered an authority on both The Gambia (former colony) and the English language.

I understand that various Gambian articles right here on Wikipedia use both the capitalised article and the not capitalised article. This is definitely due to this uniqueness not being known by everyone - it's understandable since other countries use the article in its lowercase form (as would normally be expected e.g the Netherlands, etc). Even so, it does remain The Gambia officially. Perhaps, you and I can undertake the task of editing other pages on The Gambia... Just a thought.

Re: the referenced article (Dakin), the title you stated for the quote is inaccurate until it is linked to the page as well. The current reference (see referenced GOV.UK article) uses a different title hence the revision for that area. If you have another article with the title you used, please feel free to add it to the page as it will no doubt make it richer.

Let me know what you think. I'll keep an eye out for any messages from you.
