London; The numerous sources of error arising from spreadsheet use are well-established and pre-date recent interest by the media. I recall reading about some causes of the notoriety in "The Trouble with Computers", by Thomas Landauer, which was published in 1995, but problems go back further than that. The challenge, I think, is to succinctly identify the problems in a non-technical way for this article. What sorts of tasks are spreadsheets good for? Why? At what scale of problem do they become dangerously clumsy, menacing sources of miscalculation? Why? I suspect that one very significant source of trouble is users trying to solve relational database problems with spreadsheets, which spreadsheets cannot do very effectively. But, again, could this be communicated correctly, if it is the case, in an article that is not supposed to be about computer science? Baingb (talk) 03:18, 10 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
