Great Disappointment edit

I'm hoping that you'll take a second to explain this edit to me. In your edit summary, you call this "some rewording in intro", but it's obvious that you reverted to a previous version. You restored an old version that had my doubled "the the" mistake, as well as the now-useless AFI song disambig.

I asked on the talk page before I made the edit that I did, and no one commented. The reason that I rewrote the introduction was because it assumes that the reader is a Christian and is familiar with concepts like Second Coming and Jesus. Wikipedia shouldn't have any intrisic bias, and I think your restoration of the previous version biases the article towards Christian readers.

Could you take a couple of minutes to tell me why you made the revision and why you think the article is less biased because of it? A Traintalk 01:39, 23 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've reverted your edit for now because you seem to contribute infrequently. If you think this is worth discussing further, we should do it on Talk:Great Disappointment so that other users can chime in. A Traintalk 01:56, 23 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Actually I can explain it. I was looking at the difference of your last edit, then I hit "edit" to make a minor rewording of something. For some reason it saved the old version (like a revert), but that was unintentional. I'm not sure how I made that mistake, but never mind now. Cuñado ☼ - Talk 05:32, 23 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for getting back to me, Cunado. I'd still like to discuss the edit. I'd like to examine the way that the intro reads as I wrote it versus your edit.
The second sentence ("William Miller, the preacher from whom...") in my version ends with:
"..prophesied that Jesus, the savior of the Christian religion, would return to Earth on October 22, 1844. "
Your version reads like this:
"..concluded from his study of scripture that the Second Coming of Jesus would happen on October 22, 1844."
An introduction to an article (or anything else, really) should establish context for the reader (Wikipedia:Lead section is actually worth reading on this subject). If I come to this article as a non-Westerner, or a non-Christian, then I may not be intimately familiar with Jesus. Wikipedia articles must be NPOV and free of bias, and I think that my sentence there is superior because it succinctly informs the reader who Jesus is and why he would be "coming back".
I think that your version takes it for granted that the reader knows who Jesus is, and that's an example of systematic bias that we should strive to avoid.
One place where I think your version is superior is that it points out that Miller's prophecy came about as a result of his study of scripture. I'm going to rewrite the intro so that it doesn't take for granted existing knowledge of Jesus and so that it refers to the study of scripture.
As for the second sentence ("When Jesus failed to appear on the appointed day" vs "When the event failed to materialize as expected"), I'm not sure why you objected to my version, as you're essentially saying the same thing but with less specific information. I don't think it reads as well. I'll leave it your way, but I'd be curious to hear why you made the change. A Traintalk 12:56, 23 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of J. B. Eckl edit

A tag has been placed on J. B. Eckl, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read our the guidelines on spam as well as the Wikipedia:Business' FAQ for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The attempted deletion of Mohammad Khan was vandalism. The page is a redirect and somebody already restored it. Cuñado ☼ - Talk 17:01, 12 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Restoring sub-heading on "Homosexuality and Bahá'í Faith" edit

I'm just writing on your Talk page because I restored the section subheading ("Non-Bahá'í homosexuals") on "Homosexuality and Bahá'í Faith." The reason I restored it is that, first, it is not clear from the paragraph that it is talking only about the Bahá'ís' treatment of non-Bahá'í homosexuals. And second, even if it was clear, it is (at least) no less clear than that the next paragraph is talking about Bahá'í homosexuals (even without its) subheading. So would you suggest removing the subheading for that section too? I mean, what is wrong with extra clarity? Surely, there is no benefit to an ambiguity as to who the first paragraph is about, am I right? Hope all is well, man!! Regards, Mavaddat (talk) 03:15, 7 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Mavaddat. I noticed you've been having most of your conversations about page content on user talk pages. You should really get in the habit of using the talk page of the subject that you're discussing. Some people will read over an associated talk page before making edits, to see if there have been any controversial edits or compromises made. I'll repost your comment on Talk:Homosexuality and Bahá'í Faith, and respond there. Cuñado ☼ - Talk 06:18, 7 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Van Gloeden edit

The image by van Gloeden has been on the article Man for several years now, and after much wrangling on the talk page, its presence has consensus. Please do not remove it with first acquiring a new consensus for its removal. Thank you. —Angr If you've written a quality article... 20:09, 10 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Interpretting Creature edit

Hey, man. Could you please explain on the talk page why you removed my more inclusive wording of the two ways to understand the meaning of "creature"? Your wording emphasizes only the fact that "creature" could mean "created thing" without also acknowledging that 'Abdu'l-Bahá might have thought that minerals were alive. If you don't mind, I am going to revert that part of the the page to my modification of it, since it specifies both ways of understanding the passage. List of Bahá'ís edit

Per Talk:Bahá'í Faith#List of Baha'is I've reverted the mass edit out and commented that the as a general statement all these entries are sourced on their respective pages. I don't see any rule they must be sourced on the lists itself. I don't see any discussion of this issue on the referenced Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Christians (2nd nomination) From what I can tell you've been to the page since it was eviscerated.
