Garhajis population

edit

I have already provided a reliable source for the population estimates of the Garhajis from expert Somali historian I.M Lewis, who based his findings on a British census of the Somaliland protectrate. The census was undertaken a mere 2-3 generations ago and puts the Garhajis population as the largest Isaaq clan and puts them at 170,000 , Habar Yoonis being 130,000 and Ciidagle at 40,000. While Habar Awal all together make up 130,000 , Sacad Muuse being 100,000 ,(smaller than Habar yoonis , a sub clan of Garhajis ) and Ciise Muuse being 30,000. Habar Jeclo is also estimated to be 100,000 , while Arab is a mere 20,000.

Now unless Garhajis have been hit by an epidemic of huge proportions and have been mass castrated, i doubt they number less than these clans today. Any further edits will be seen as vandalism , unless you can bring evidence from recent and reliable population surveys done on each sub-clan , so please in the mean time desist from your bias edits. Most Isaaq population in Djibouti and Kenya are Habar Awal and they also have large settlement in Ethiopia not to mention the population estimate you have shown me is not authentic because Somalis are nomads that move to place to so it's not a proper estimate and it was in 1960s meaning population can switch very different so I disagree on your stance that Garhajis are the largest. One of the largest doesn't mean it's second or third.

Awal & Garhajis population, My opinion

edit

Hi Geeljire and Cosbey For what it's worth the population explosion in western Somaliland since the late 1950's onward has occured entirely in Habar Awal areas. I highly doubt that Garhajis is larger than Awal today as Most of the population growth in Somaliland has taken place in Hargeisa and areas west of it. I think something like 70% of Somaliland's population lives along the Hargeisa-Gabiley-Wajaale-Kalabydh-Borama stretch which is for the most part dominated by Sacad Muuse until the Awdal border. Jibril Abokor which dominate in this area are probably one of the largest and fastest growing subclans in the nation, which wasn't the case 50 years ago. So it is both possible that Garhajis was larger than Awal in 1950 and today Awal is larger than Garhajis due to the exponential nature of population growth.

Also, using a colonial source pre-independence is highly problematic when talking about a nation as young as Somaliland.

Hello Cosbey

The Habar Awal populations in Djibouti and Kenya are negligible and insignificant , i doubt they would number more than Garhajis if added to the Habar numbers from I.M Lewis . Also the estimates of the British also include Ethiopian Isaaqs , if they didn't Garhajis would have been the Smallest since majority reside in the Hawd area.

You're argument against the British survey is very weak. So far it is the best clan population estimate we have , so until you can provide a better and more accurate population survey, i suggest you sieze and desist from vandalising my article again. I'm not interested in a edit war , nothing will be gained. laga baray laga badi bay soomaali ku maah maahdaa , iska fahan oo inala kala kaxee inaader. 3000 habar awal horsemen , downfall of dervish

edit

The source you cited for the claim of "3000 habar awal horsemen" doesn't contain anything on the fall of the dervish state let alone any mention of 3000 Habar awal horsemen. Also the book you're citing was authored by Richard burton who died in 1884 , long before the dervish movement even existed. I have removed the poorly sourced paragraph.GeelJire (talk) 03:30, 18 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

I've added my sources and the page is still under development so please stop the vandalism. Thank you!

The new source you cited also makes no mention of a dervish defeat by the Habar Awal , nor their supposed supremacy in Somaliland. The page being under development doesn't justify your blatant disinformation and lack of actual authentic sources. You also don't seem to understand the meaning of vandalism , removing un-sourced or poorly sourced claims is not vandalism but the exact opposite. Also sign your comments next time .GeelJire (talk) 02:48, 19 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Dir (clan), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Jarso (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Habar Awal page

edit

Hey Cosbey. I just wanted to ask you to not post entire subclan lineages on the Habar awal page. It is not allowed on Wikipedia to go that deep as it is self promotion. I didn't write that any subclan was larger than another as I stopped at the "Reer" or dia paying group level. I don't know where you got the idea where I said Hussien Abokor is larger than Jibril Abokor. Its a commonly accepted fact that Jibril Abokor is larger. Lineage or organization at the "reer" level has nothing to do with population anyways.

Anyways, please don't vandalise anymore, let me know before you post something changing what i wrote and practice proper wikipedia etiquette.

I have a source for Jibril Abokor lineage but brother I don't vandalise, I actually fight against it. But let's just keep it within Abokor to settle edit war. Ignore the clan tree and focus on other development within Habar Awal page. Remember I started and developed the page so at least you could do is help me.
