Reactions to the 2016 Nice attack

There was a deletion discussion regarding this article, and the consensus was to move much of the content to Wikiquote, merge some with the main article, and delete the rest. You may see much of the content by visiting the page's wikiquote. TimothyJosephWood 15:35, 24 August 2016 (UTC)

@Timothyjosephwood : I’m surprised, even baffled, after reading Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Reactions to the 2016 Nice attack. I think that I can count quite well – if that were all I’m capable to – and it seems to me, in that discussion there were:

• 20 votes for keep (one extra for weak keep);
• 9 delete (and one weak delete, and one burn them all);
• 6 merge;
• 2 keep or merge.

So: even if you would take all (rather varied, different) votes not saying ‘keep’ together, ‘keep’ (even without ‘weak keep’) still wins! (with 20 against 19.) How can there have been decided otherwise then, by Thryduulf…?..?… (I have nothing against that wikiquote on Nice attack, but it is not as extensive as the previous (until 24 July) Reactions to the 2016 Nice attack.) --Corbertholt (talk) 16:25, 24 August 2016 (UTC)

The decision was discussed some afterward here. Otherwise, the proper recourse is to post at Wikipedia:Deletion review.

I would remind that these types of discussions are not votes, and determining an outcome is not simply a matter of counting. Arguments made that are not based on or are contrary to policy can and are often disregarded. A minority of well reasoned arguments can and often does overcome a large number of weak arguments.
