Cameroon

edit

Hello there, I see you edited the information on Cameroon's ethnic group by completely removing Fulanis. There are two sources which include the Fulani to be 14%. Fulanis are one of the majorand largest ethnic groups in Cameroon and have always been known to represent between 13% to 14% of the total population. The 13% Shuwa Arabs, Kanuri, and Hausa is obviously a MISTAKE on the CIA's part. Those 3 latter ethnic groups are usually clustered as part of the Biu-Mandara collection of peoples when it comes to Cameroon's ethnic groupings. Kindly please take note of this. The source did not cited Fulanis it mentioned that 13.5% of Cameroon's population combined is Shuwa Arab, Hausa, and Kanuri. Fulani was not found anywhere in the cited source which is the CIA Factbook. If you have a citation to provide the estimate I can add it but otherwise dont remove names of ethnic groups that have been cited in the sources and add others. Hello there,
I did not remove name, just re-clustered the Shuwa Arabs, Hausa and Kanuri to the Biu Mandara groups because that is where they truly belong as it pertains to Cameroon. Biu Mandara are usually a clustering of Muslim ethnic groups in northern Cameroon that are non Fulani.
There are two sources - one includes the CIA. The omission of Fulani Cameroon's ethnic grouping is obviously is mistake from the CIA (which is not the most reliable source especially when it comes to African countries). The CIA has historically always recognized Fulani as a major ethnic group in Cameroon at 13%. Several other sources always confirm the Fulanis to be between 13% to 14% of the Cameroonian population. The Fulani language alone is the most spoken African language in Cameroon. Based on historical facts, and reality ON THE GROUND, it makes no sense to override one of the largest ethnic groups in Cameroon (Fulani) to that of Shuwa Arabs, Hausa, and Kanuri which in total do not make up to a fraction of Fulani's population. No where in the CIA world factbook has it been specifically mentioned that Fulanis make up 14% of Cameroon's population. The source does not have Shuwa Arabs, Hausa, and Kanuris clustered with Biu-Mandara so that should have not been done anyways. The source you cited is also not reliable as other sources I've found mention that Fulanis make up 10% of Cameroon's population. The source also lumps Fulanis with 'Sahelian Muslims' it mentions '14% Fulani and Sahelian Muslims'. https://study.com/academy/lesson/cameroon-ethnic-groups.html#:~:text=The%20Northern%20Groups&text=The%20largest%20ethic%20group%20of,about%2010%25%20of%20Cameroon's%20population. Upon a quick search the CIA have historically indeed recognized Fulani to be at 10%. However, several sources historically state between 12% to 14% sans including "Sahelian Muslims". Nonetheless, Shuwa Arabs/Hausa/Kanuri in total DO NOT MAKE UP TO 1% of Cameroon's population. The Sahelian Muslims in that source are the Shuwa Arabs/Hausa/Kanuri who do not even add up to 1% of Cameroon's population which means at least 13% are Fulanis. From that same source, the Kirdi (an archaic and offensive term) are the Biu-Mandara which are also Sahelian Muslims for the most part. The Fulani ethnicity is the largest Muslim group in Cameroon and are usually distinguished from other Muslim groups. The source is reliable because it feeds off the information that is available online. Skets33 (talk) 20:00, 10 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Kanuri is filled with unreliable sources

edit

@Cookiemonster1618You have provided so many unreliable sources as it pertains to the Kanuri population. I undid the edit you made for Cameroon because it does not corroborate the source(s) you cited. Skets33 (talk) 15:38, 11 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

There clearly is a reliable source cited for the Kanuri population page. Cookiemonster1618 (talk) 15:48, 11 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ethnologue is clearly an unreliable source which fulfills all requirements on what could be deemed as a probable deprecated source. I am going to follow up on this. Thanks. Skets33 (talk) 16:03, 11 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hausas in Cameroon

edit

The source you (or someone else) provided does not corroborate how the calculation resulted to 1 million Hausas in Cameroon. Moreover, there are several other sources from the other counties which are linked to religious sources. Also, the population on table displayed on the left of the page is incongruent to the table displayed on the right. I have provided a more credible source as it pertains to the percentage of Hausas in Cameroon. The 1 million is very random. Can you please confirm how you came with 1 million because the source I provided they account for 1.2% albeit it being dated? Skets33 (talk) 23:25, 14 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Fulani Population in Sudan et al.

edit

Please be aware, you are not the only editor whose contribution can be deemed valuable.

With the exception of Sudan, and Mauritania, the updates in calculation are linked to percentage of the ethnic group, and the current population as of 2024. Do you have a cited source that confirms the percentage of Fallata people in Sudan and Mauritania? According to this page (wikipedia), 0.4% and 18.3% are what are being confirmed for Sudan and Mauritania respectively. Can you provide a cited source which confirms a percentage higher to the o.4% for Sudan? If it is indeed 0.4% then the calculations are supported. Skets33 (talk) 23:30, 14 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Its already been cited and sourced. Have you not seen the citations next to the population estimates? If not I suggest you chcek them out before making any more edits. Cookiemonster1618 (talk) 23:41, 14 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
