User talk:Conversano Isabella/South African Lipizzaners - Sandbox

Jankovic is an elusive fellow, I tried Jankovic, Jankovich, etc., with little success (though some pages in an Eastern European language (maybe Hungarian) mentioned the name, but searching for "Elemer JankovicOR "Elemer Jankovich" in Google, I found someone with the same name, possibly a son or grandson, in Africa: Search for "Elemer" on the page;

Zero help on the Lipizzan issue, but interesting, I guess. Appears to be a hunting guide. Want to shoot a Cape Buffalo? This is your guy! There appears to be another ELEMER JANKOVICH-BESAN in Southampton, Thames Valley, I presume this is in the UK (?) `

Also found more on the South African Lipizzaners, mentioning Count Jankovic in passing:

Wikipedia won't let me directly link to this article because they have the domain blocked, but see (http://) ezinearticles.com/?Horses---The-Lipizzaners&id=170022 "In 1948, after having fled Europe, Count Elemer Jankovich-Besan moved some of the surviving horses to South Mooi River in South Africa. He gifted one of the stallions to Major George Iwanowski who, in turn, started the Lipizzaners of South Africa School. This is one of the two accredited Lipizzaner Centers in the world, the other being the Spanish Riding School."

This one has a lot of bad spelling and some historically horrifying mistakes ("They could stand up on their hind legs on command, so the rider could scan the battlefield." ) ??? =:-O As we say here in the USA, "WTF"??? (See first definition at linked page) But also some acceptable general info on the school. The "coming to Africa" section, if accurate, would add some nice detail to the article, actually.

Also http://johannesburg.jozibeartours.co.za/?q=node/35 Just a promotional site, but some info. Bad punctuation, but hey, they mention a little about the performances.

Hmm. Yet another topic for a new wikipedia article. Wonder if there is a Hungarian or Croatian Wikipedia we can check and run through Google language. (German and English speakers translating Hungarian. Via Google. Oh dear... =:-O ) Montanabw(talk) 07:38, 12 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Elemér Janković-Bésán de Pribér-Vuchin edit

I found these links:

http://www.suhopolje.hr/povijest.asp

http://hr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suhopolje

the croatian site mentions the count —Preceding unsigned comment added by Conversano Isabella (talkcontribs) 20:19, 12 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

I think my advice would be to use Google language to translate from Croatian (why is it .hr? Odd. Oh well) to German. Then once you have it understandable in your first language, we can run your German version through the mill again to English. I fear that going straight to English will give us more translations like "heaters" and "catfish" with neither of us having any clue what is really intended! =:-O But if you want to try running it straight to English, well, your decision!  :-D
Not much in there, they spelled Janković with a "ć" at the end.--Andreas Hausberger 14:13, 13 March 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Conversano Isabella (talkcontribs)
It looks quite good, don't you think so? Andreas Hausberger 10:16, 17 March 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Conversano Isabella (talkcontribs)
Definitely better than what was there before, You may notice that I have a (couple of comments in parentheses) that need to be removed (ideally after fixing what I was asking about). Other than that, I'd be OK if you moved it over and replaced the old article -- just remember to keep the categories and interwiki (Links to other language wikis) links that are already there. And the See Alsos, if there are any. Montanabw(talk) 18:02, 17 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I will --Andreas Hausberger 19:58, 17 March 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Conversano Isabella (talkcontribs)

It's looks fine, don't you think so? edit

What do you think? Can we replace the old version with this one? --Andreas Hausberger 09:02, 21 March 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Conversano Isabella (talkcontribs)

Yes. I made a few changes, but nothing that wouldn't happen in a live article. (I left some hidden test asking some questions) If you have more sources for the article, I'd add them to the list. Otherwise, it's fine. In a perfect world, we'd footnote it some, but it isn't absolutely crucial unless someone else starts questioning where we got each and every fact. (Nothing as controversial as Wahl's two marriages and etc...) Go ahead and do it, and if you mess it up, don't fret, I'll come by and do cleanup. Montanabw(talk) 03:40, 22 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
