Over-links

Hello! I noticed that you have unlinked the name of language in Template:Language tests‎. You seem to think they are over-linked, as per the suggestion in wp:overlink. But the guild-line there reads "[i]n particular, unless they are particularly relevant to the topic of the article, the following are not usually linked". It means the wikilinks to language are not over-links, as long as they are with particular relevance to the pages. And I think it is the case with Template:Language tests‎, as it is obviously about language. So I suggest the languages should be linked. Thanks. Salt (talk) 07:57, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi Salt: The underlying question is whether a reader would be likely to find those links useful - and that comes down to the purpose of the template, which is to provide lists of available tests by language. The template is used in articles about language tests. The reader using this template already knows what language they're interested in, and they're using the template to guide them to a test; they're not looking for information on the language itself. The test-related article they choose will have links to the language so the reader can further investigate any specific aspects of the language that are particularly relevant to the test. Colonies Chris (talk) 09:58, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
Salt, particularly relevant is that the target "test" articles themselves contain prominent links to their language. Wikilinking is not intended for random or almost-random browsing. Thanks. Tony (talk) 10:16, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for February 25

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Paris By Night, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Như Quỳnh (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

An RfC that you may be interested in...

As one of the previous contributors to {{Infobox film}} or as one of the commenters on it's talk page, I would like to inform you that there has been a RfC started on the talk page as to implementation of previously deprecated parameters. Your comments and thoughts on the matter would be welcomed. Happy editing!

Wolf Prize in Physics

Hello ! Why do you think that your version of notation of the nations-flags on this page is the better one ??? Jarszick (talk) 10:02, 13 March 2014 (UTC)

The MoS recommends against linking well-known places (see Wikipedia:OVERLINK#Overlinking What generally should not be linked); all of these countries are well-known, so the name and flag is sufficient - no link is needed. I've also fixed the refs and added a disambig tag. Colonies Chris (talk) 10:16, 13 March 2014 (UTC)
Your reasoning is absolutely bad, because then you would have to rework consequently some 100 other wikipedia pages. In addition, the previously used abbreviations for the nations are far better known than the symbols used by you, so that even more wikipedia supporters can work on these pages. Why is it so disturbing that you can also click well-known countries by link ?? Jarszick (talk) 21:56, 13 March 2014 (UTC)
What do you mean about abbreviations and symbols? There were no abbreviations on the page before, and there are none now. If you mean the underlying code, I haven't used any symbols, just the actual name of the country. If you don't like the guidelines at WP:OVERLINK, start a discussion about it there. And yes, there are many pages that don't conform to the guidelines, and they should all be modified. Tell me which ones you're referring to and I'll add them to my to-do list. Colonies Chris (talk) 22:08, 13 March 2014 (UTC)

I have probably used the wrong names, because I don't know the special words. You speak from the underlying code. I have meant the following international abbreviations of the nations GBR / USA; NED; AUT / USA and the following spellings I have called symbols: flagu | United Kingdom; flagu | United States; ------ It's O.K. I want to close the discussion, because I don't like the guideline in this point ! Jarszick (talk) 22:39, 13 March 2014 (UTC)

{{flagu}} is one of a set of flag templates, widely used for displaying a flag icon, optionally with the country name, with or without a wikilink. They are more flexible than the simple country templates such as {{USA}}, which always link the country. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Flag Template for a full description. Unlinking common words

Hi. I have seen several edits from you in recent days, where you unlinked "common words". Please be more selective in doing this. Sometimes common words should be linked, particularly when they are relevant to the topic of the article. An optics article, for example, may need a link to light. --Srleffler (talk) 20:22, 15 March 2014 (UTC)
