Woops edit

Hi There,

Just wanted to say, sorry for the "linkspam" on the A-League club articles that you removed. I'm new to Wikipedia and when I saw the "just go and edit" messages, I thought that I would try and help. I thought I had some extra information there to contribute, in particular the Away Fan's Travel Guide, so I'm not sure how to get it linked as some people might find it useful yet not directly adding information relevant to the A-League clubs.

Anyways - sorry again and if you could let the other people in the A-League WikiProject know that my intentions were good, then that would be great.

Cheers!

Category:Sports by year edit

I notice you created Category:Sports by year, which contains articles whose titles begin with a year. If you have time, could you please go through and make sure the articles are sorted in their respective year (or year-in) parent categories using sortkeys as outlined at Wikipedia:Categorization#Year categories? (Don't forget to start the sortkey with a capital letter.) If you've done this already, thanks and sorry for bugging you about this. I plan to go through a ton of such pages early next year; it would be nice if some of the work were already done... - dcljr (talk) 01:28, 25 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

iinet edit

Um, the removed sections read like an Ad (like the deader says). You just added back a bit that says:

As of early September 2005, the Belkin ATA (Analogue Telephone Adapter) that iiNet supports for allowing the use of a regular phone on their VoIP network (through a router) is not available. iiNet have said that the ATA units will be shipped out roughly within the next week, allowing customers who purchased their VoIP hardware through iiNet to use the service.

Not to mention configured your phone line , iiNet being forced , etc . I think a little more work than just adding the sections back is needed. - SimonLyall 07:14, 27 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Worldwind maps edit

Hey Chuq, are you still doing this? Is it like a PD version of Google Earth? That's the impression I'm getting.

I have a request, if you're still doing 'em... Thorpdale and/or the Latrobe Valley. There's a page with an overview map and latitude/longitude info here. My uncle had Google Earth, and said the Thorpdale farming area is really lush because the area used to be a volcano, and you can see the ring of trees on where the edge of the volcano used to be on Google Earth. It looks pretty mad - I mean, striking - so it would be cool to have an image of that. thanks, pfctdayelise 04:17, 1 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sidney's in Australia edit

Re the clipper route map; hey, there may very well be someone called Sidney there! Seriously, though, my sincere apologies for mangling the name of this city. Unfortunately, this came up at a bad time, as my laptop (my other laptop, with the image master) and myself are on different continents right now. I should be able to fix it in a week or so, though. Wouldn't It Be Nice page edit

Hi i was just wondering how the edits by me in the 'same session' were vandalism as you stated on the Wouldn't It Be Nice talk page? Im just wondering, because I have no idea what you meant by this. I am totally unsure of what 'vandalism' I did on this or any other page, could you please specify so that I am aware of what I did wrong according to yourself so that I dont make the same vandalism or mistakes in the future. A-League edit edit

Hi, I removed Hobart from the options as at the moment Hobart does not have a stadium to play football in. John O'Neil was on Foxsports shortly after the A-League finals talking about one of the successes of the A-League was talking football out of the lower quality grounds and into modern, centraly located stadiums. Given the quality of stadiums in Canberra, Townsville and shortly in Wollongong and the Gold Coast it's very hard to see a team playing in Hobart any time soon.Tancred 08:17, 8 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

iiNet reference edit

Done. Their half yearly result presentation should suffice: you'll see that collectively iiNet and Ozemail lost about 70,000 dial customers while gaining only 20,000 DSL customers - in the context of rapid movement of the market from dial to broadband, that's not particularly impressive and suggests that insofar as they justified paying something like $400 a pop for those customers on the basis they could convert them into higher yielding broadband customers, it hasn't worked out that way. re: Cubby edit

I know that whatever needs to be said about it is in the "general trivia" section, but what's wrong with having a page about it? Does it really make that much of a difference? I mean, come on, there's pages here about characters that made a total of 3 appearances on the show and no one else seems to care. Is it really that much to ask of you to keep the page?

Thanks.

Perth dab notice edit

The reason I added it is that Perth, Australia redirects to Perth, Western Australia, which is the most obvious, but not the only, Perth in Australia. If the link is not present at the top of Perth WA's page, other options are:

  1. Convert Perth, Australia to a disambig page
  2. Redirect Perth, Australia to Perth.
  3. Re-add Perth, Western Australia's dab notice, and change it to specifically link to Perth, Tasmania.

I think the notice I placed was the least invasive way. -- Chuq 05:24, 20 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fair enough - it makes more sense now, but my reasons for reverting still stand. The trouble with adding a dab link to the Perth, Western Australia page is that it will almost certainly be reverted again by someone else in the future for the same reasons. I like your option 1 above. Comments? -- I@ntalk 05:38, 20 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Tazmap edit

I'm awfully sorry, first of all for failing to notice your message (another came right after it and I thought it was the only new message) and second of all for not being able to offer the map in any other form. I'm afraid it is what it is, namely a whole, and if you want layers, I'm afraid you will have to make them yourself.

As to the source of the road data, I find it a bit hard to remember. They came from various sources and are mostly quite accurate. I do remember having to make the odd adjustment here and there to make the roads fit the map properly, but I don't think many of the inaccuracies are terribly serious. Two or three of the roads are even hand-drawn, one of those even from memory (the southerly extension down to Cockle Creek, which has the distinction of being Australia's southernmost road; I therefore thought it worthy of inclusion).

I have, however, just thought of something: I believe there is a previous version that does not include roads. Just a minute...Yes, I've been looking at all three versions which are available at the image page, and you can definitely find a map without the roads, but not unfortunately, without towns and cities. Another thing is that a few physical features not on the first version appear in the second version (this for the most part means a few lakes' names). Also, two mountains are named on the third (current) version that are not on either previous version, and this has had the effect of making the placename Campania (just north of Hobart) jump around rather amusingly if you click back and forth between the second and third versions. The legend is also different in each version. That's about the best I can do. Kelisi 02:02, 24 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Chuq!

I just wanted to let you know about the big WikiProject A-League 2005–06 player project. It is an attempt to bring the articles on every player who played in the A-League in 2005–06 up to standard. Check out the main page for the player project to get the full list of players as well as useful links and stats to help out. Hopefully we can get the full list done before the beginning of the 2006–07 season. Don't forget to update the counts (they will automatically update the status bar) as you go. Thanks! Template:Hobart suburbs edit

Hi Ian, thanks for making the Hobart suburbs navbox. Just a couple of questions - there are some I'm not sure about:

  • I don't think places like New Norfolk, Richmond or Margate really count as parts of Hobart
  • Kingborough is a municipality, not a suburb or town in itself
  • I have never heard of a place called Springfield in or near Hobart!

-- Chuq 09:50, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

G'day chuq,

first may i just thankyou for asking me first, rather than deleting first, which seems to be a commen practice on Wikipedia. I have the answers to all your questions.

  • I am only an amature at the navigation userboxes, pherhaps if you would show me how i could put the suburbs of each council into their relevant section, however this was created as a "greater area of Hobart" and not in a city by city sence(once again only due to my lack of userbox knowledge), so therefor in the sence of the greater are of Hobart yes i would count those..... Doesn't Metro buses travel as far north as Bothwell? if so, could you not count that town as part of the greater area of Hobart aswell? I counted Glenorchy and new norfolk because they both localities, Clarence is the name of a council.

i am not familiar with the Kingborough' area, but i knew a kingborough stadium near the cemetary exists so i assumed it was a locality.

  • My mother grew up in Springfield. The bus interchange near the new Clive Peters Store is the south eastern boundry, which is why its called Sprinfield exchange. It is more a large suburb that stretches beyind, becasue the mcdonalds near by is considered Moonah and the Carlyle just to the North is Derwent park.

Any queries please contact me, If you're not happy with my reason to include Kingborough please feel free to delete it, as i said i dont know down that way to well. Cheers. Wiki ian 10:16, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Chuq, was actually just about to report this person to you regarding their continued vandalism of the Wil Anderson page over the last week. They called me a vandal for reverting the page so look out! Cheers! BrightLights 04:05, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

My edits didn't qualify as vandalism in the slightest. And I didn't call you a vandal per say; I merely asked you please refrain from vandalising the Wil Anderson article by repeatedly reverting my edits without stating any justification for doing so, and adding uncited information. You could at least have responded to me on your talk page rather than simply deleting my comments and sweeping it under the carpet. This sort of behavior really reflects rather poorly on Wikipedia. - 81.178.255.5 18:04, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
In the spirit of being open I'm going to leave this reply (81.178.255.5's reply) here, but it is complete rubbish. 81.178.255.5's edits were vandalism, BrightEyes' were reversions to the vandalism. See User talk:81.178.255.5. -- Chuq 00:54, 24 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

National football teams edit

I am not an ignorant person so i know that there is more than one football code in Australia. Soccer is not the only football code with a national team. I am a proud Aussie Rules fan, but i would have to say that rugby union has the most right to having the australian national football team redirected to them. However i linked it to the disamb page to make it easier for other people.

Sport in Sydney etc edit

Leave the clubs there. The soccer clubs eg. Melbourne Victory, Sydney United, etc are all in both the subcatergories and catergories in those categorys. They have every right to be there, just like the football and rugby league clubs do. Being the fact that you only moved them and not any of the soccer clubs, I can only assume you only want soccer in those categories. Please leave them alone.--Sliat 1981 10:15, 2 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

What if it was the 10th time you have done it, and the person warning you didn't know about it because the other nine times you deleted them? They are welcome to look through the history.

I wish that when a public comment is made in a publically visible page, it remains public. I wish that when somebody asks for something to happen ie dont revert there wishes are respetced

You said yourself, you kept the ones you like. That does not mean i delete the ones i dont like. By the way, If i recieve a banstar yes i would like that but i will also delete them.

I've undeleted this page. PROD is not supposed to be used on pages that have once been through AfD, so the prod was invalid. The Wheel of Fortune move edit

Chuq is obviously taking a very short sighted view of things, which is sadly typical of my fellow Americans. Assuming that the American version of anything it what most people among the billions in the world are searching for clearly violates the WP:NPOV guidelines, specifically violating the Nationalistic bias point and additionaly violates most of the points listed at WP:CSB - simply put the American point of view is not a netutral point of view. The article as it stands now violates WP:NPOV as it seems to assume that people know at least what the show is and have at least seen it. The article had w, as much of Wikipedia does, an American bias, which the editors of this article and related articles simply don't even see they have. To assume that most people would search for the American version simply proves this unspoken default bias. Given the chance, the bias needs to be removed as it will not only make Wikipedia have more of a neutral point of view, but may even educate Americans that our country is one of many and we have to get along with people from other places. One step towards greater global peace and understaning is to be more inclusive and take the chance to educate. The American user should find the disambguation list of Wheel of Fortune, as it will be the most neutral option and will remind them that there are things outside of the United States, something that is really needed, now more than ever.
