Welcome

edit

Hi Chris. Welcome to Wikipedia. I hope you manage to find your way around, and get to like the project. As you mentioned on my talk page, I have been the main contributor to the Caistor Canal article, though others have also made contributions. With ref to Mr Hall, ref [1] further down the paragraph covers all of the info up to that point, and Mr Hall is mentioned on page 300 of Boyes and Russell. (I am on holiday at the moment but just happen to have Boyes and Russell with me). I do not know if your article has been used as a source - although your pictures were, as the ref 4 link to Jim Shead's site indicates. If you want to add your paper, it should go in the bibliography section. Most of the articles I work on use the cite book or cite web template, and you can just copy one of the existing books and alter the details if you are not sure of the format. There is also a cite journal, which is sometimes more appropriate. You can see how to use it by typing "Template:Cite journal" into the search bar.

While I was getting started, I set up a couple of my own pages, so I could try stuff out without messing up the articles, and then copying it to the articles when I was happy with it. So if you create your user page, by clicking on the User page tab above, and entering a few details about yourself on it, you can also add an entry like [[/Sandbox]], and then when you click it, you will have the option to create your own sandbox. (It took me about four goes just to create a link in an article when I first tried, but you soon get the hang of things).

If you are not sure about any of this, by all means drop me another note. Regards. Bob1960evens (talk) 20:51, 19 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Chris, generally, subsequent comments are added to the existing section, but are progressively indented, by using the colon, so the first response has a single colon, then two and so on, until it gets silly. I would normally reply on my page, and expect the person who put the comment there to add the page to their watchlist, but since you are new to all this, thought it easier if I replied on your page. Also, do remember to sign all additions to talk pages with the four tildes (~~~~), which will be automatically converted to a link to your user page and talk page.
As you noted, I am interested in narrow gauge railways, although I have not done much on wikipedia about them, as I have been a bit busy with canals and rivers. We were in Porthmadoc during the summer, but didn't get to the WHHR, although we did ride up to Caernarfon on the WHR. I was involved in the Ffestiniog construction when they were building the loop around Dduallt, which is quite a time ago now. Regards. Bob1960evens (talk) 21:13, 20 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Bob, I think I just failed to add a comment here, so am trying again. Thanks for your help and by the way I meant the Heritage Group of the WHR, not the WHHR. It has got very complicated over this kind of thing ChrisPadley (talk) 11:21, 21 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
