Welcome edit

Hello, CharlesM, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Wikipedia Boot Camp, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Wilcox Schools edit

Some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Wilcox County High School may not be sufficiently well-known to merit articles of their own. The Wikipedia community welcomes newcomers, and encourages them to become Wikipedians. On Wikipedia, each user is entitled to a user page in which they can describe themselves, and this article's content may be incorporated into that page. However, to merit inclusion in the encyclopedia proper, a subject must be notable. We encourage you to write or improve articles on notable subjects. --Gary Kirk (talk) 12:24, 6 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

help edit

I am trying to make an internal link work on the Wilcox County, Georgia page, but I cannot because it will mess up the sentence structure. What can I do? CharlesM

  • Can you give an example? I'm not entirely sure what you mean. If you want to give the link different text to the article name then in the [[ put a pipe (|) character after the article name followed by the text you want. e.g. The [[Wilcox County, Georgia|the county]] shows up as the county --pgk(talk) 13:41, 11 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Adminship edit

I wouldn't try for it yet, as it looks like you've only been around for a month; typically it takes longer than that to really learn the ropes. Also, you've only amassed 279 edits (although it looks like they're spread across a variety of namespaces, which people like to see). I recommend sticking around for a couple more months, keeping on doing what you're doing, and communicating with other users as much as possible. I don't pay a whole lot of attention to admin nominations, but from what I've seen it looks like people who haven't been around for at least three months don't typically get given the privileges. If you're planning to self-nominate, some users will want you to have been around for six months. Hbackman 01:54, 17 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Tony Blair edit

Regarding this [1], I wonder if you might consider letting the edit stand? It seems a reasonable request; witty vandalism is at least enjoyable to revert. Mackensen (talk) 03:09, 17 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fair enough. It's just so *refreshing* to see non-destructive vandalism from AOL. Thanks for your response. Mackensen (talk) 03:18, 17 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia Cat Lovers' Committee edit

CharlesM, from your userboxes, I can see that you love cats.

Would you be interested in joining the Wikipedia Cat Lovers' Committee?

Vandalism warnings to IP's edit

You recently sent a warning about vandalism to an IP address, 12.75.106.92. I happened to catch this warning, although I can assure you it wasn't me that did any vandalizing, as I've not edited a page on Wikipedia in almost a month. I just wanted to let you know that warning IP addresses won't do much good because its unlikely that the actual culprit will get it. m'Kay? Thanks. ClarkCT 03:34, 6 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Cordeledispatch.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Cordeledispatch.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Wikimania Atlanta edit

Hi! I noticed your involvement on U.S. South-related articles, categories and WikiProjects, and I wanted to let you know about a bid we're formulating to get next year's Wikimania held in Atlanta! If you would like to help, be sure to sign your name to the "In Atlanta" section of the Southeast team portion of the bid if you're in town, or to the "Outside Atlanta" section if you still want to help but don't live in the city or the suburbs. If you would like to contribute more, please write on my talk page, the talk page of the bid, or join us at the #wikimania-atlanta IRC chat on freenode.org. Have a great day!

P.S. While this is a template for maximum efficiency, I would appreciate a note on my talk page so I know you got the message, and what you think. This is time-sensitive, so your urgent cooperation is appreciated. :) Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 07:25, 24 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with Image:Abbevillecourthouse.JPG edit

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Abbevillecourthouse.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. MECUtalk 15:42, 28 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:WSST.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:WSST.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 07:12, 10 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for File:George-Anne April 21 2009.png} edit

Thank you for uploading File:George-Anne April 21 2009.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
