Lead testing area

edit

Let's see if clicking this [§] will hop down to the right section. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 02:32, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Trying this version to test how this works as an underlined blue link. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 02:37, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Both work fine. The link can be a descriptive word in the text or an ampersand at the right spot in the lead. So now we need to decide which we want to use. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 02:39, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

That's Talk:Donald Trump stuff. Cessaune [talk] 02:43, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes, but at least the "technology" works. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 02:58, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yep. Cessaune [talk] 03:01, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

{{section link||Section}}, for usage within the same page, supply an empty first parameter → Example: § Scientific career

In reality, it can be done without any template. It's simpler. Just use a regular hyperlink [§] code = [[#Testing L2B|[§]]] -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 03:41, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

I don't know if that will work with an anchor. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 03:45, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Test of shorter template

edit

Cessaune, look at L2B. That is a test. I don't know what I'm doing, but a shorter template would be nice. It's got to be super easy to use. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 05:47, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Attribution Talk:L2B#Attribution -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 08:16, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
User:Valjean, it'll be shorter, probably {{lblink}} (or l2b, probably both). I'll move it into templatespace if a consensus is reached. Cessaune [talk] 08:18, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Also, L2B should definitely not be in articlespace. More it to your sandbox and ask an admin to delete the article. Cessaune [talk] 08:21, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
You're right. Champagne and editing are a bad combo. Happy New Year! -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 08:27, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Happy new year, Valjean. Cessaune [talk] 08:28, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
It's gone. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 09:08, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Template:L2B (It's a "Link to [the] Body") is available and very short. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 21:43, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Done. Cessaune [talk] 23:23, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Will the shortcut work as a template? You want a very short and easy-to-use template, the shorter the better. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 01:58, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes. Cessaune [talk] 01:59, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Cool! I don't understand all of this stuff, but I find it fascinating to learn about. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 02:02, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Testing L2B

edit

Trying it out. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 02:32, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

It works. Now remove the unnecessary dashes under the ampersand and we'll have a link in the lead that hops to the right section.
Oh, it just dawned on me that you're using it slightly differently than my original intention, which is to not have any blue links in the lead at all, only the small L2B links. I'll got up there and make one of those links. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 02:36, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Now, just for fun, let's use both methods to hop up to the "Lead testing area" section.[§] -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 03:04, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

It works fine. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 03:05, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Now we need to tie it to an anchor in case the heading gets changed. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 03:21, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure, but this might be what we need Help:Link#Section linking (anchors). -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 03:25, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
"Section-linking options are piped links, redirects, and the {{Section link}} template, which also generates the § character." While it talks about using it to link to sections in other articles, it also work in the same article. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 03:27, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
